The coleman shelters are OK in a light breeze but will die very quickly in anything more. We bought one for the club to use as an addition to our normal "unbreakable" garage tent that has stood up to force 9 gales on the coast. We're on our second Coleman after a gust of wind destroyed nearly every pole and ripped the covering on our first. It didn't blow away but the poles collapsed and snapped. We've given it a bit more stability by adding a telescopic centre pole that stops the top/centre moving up and down but we still take the cover off it when nobody is around to intervene if the wind gets up. On the plus side we did get it replaced under warranty... The supplier we got our first one from said that he'd had "hundreds" of them returned in pieces due to wind damage. Wind problems aside, it is a very good shelter, comparatively light and small so is easy to transport even in a 90 - our "garage" style indestructible tent weighs a ton and has poles that are 7 feet long which makes it a real pain to transport. For our 90 we bought a tarpaulin and some eyelets and made our own side shelter - quick to put up, very cheap and can double as a ground protector for the roof tent annex. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |
