Bomb proof wheel clamp, perhaps we should be fitting these to stop the scroats stealing our Defenders

Matt, that indeed would be one of the most bombproof possible protections to avoid someone driving off, towing it off, winch it onto a truck or trailer, etc. Seems only thing this does not protect from is if they would try to crane lift it off the ground to put it onto a truck or trailer. So question is, these wheel clamps do exist, used by Police in several countries, and they indeed are impossible to remove without the right key. So why has nobody offered this solution yet, or is it maybe illegal to put a wheel clamp onto a vehicle by a private person if the vehicle is parked on public road? Food for thought? Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated You never actually own a Defender. Not trying to be offensive but i bet if the clamp was removed that would drive off. In the immortal words of hammond when the hilux made it into the tg studio after being dropped of an exploding building, " I've taxed worse". Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

Click image to enlarge In USA for less than US$200... Several models available. Also we have it in Chile but due the scarcity of Defenders it is not needed (I remember that only one Defender was stolen in 4-5 years). But for others cars like Koreans are a standard piece of equipment Cheers Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |

I think I got the wrong end of the stick....
I thought it was a clamp that blow the car up should anyone try to nick it..... no there's a plan, but alas they might well be illegal. |

Edu, seems it is not so easy to choose a good quality wheel clamp which will fit well on different types of wheels like we have on Defenders. The Trimax you show is offered at reasonable price on amazon.com, but when you read all the customer comments, it seems there are quite some pitfalls....
http://www.amazon.com/Trimax-TWL100-Ultra-...uctDetails Still, a very good and fitting wheel clamp is something I would consider as extra security layer... You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Eric,
In fact that was only an example to said that the wheel clamp mechanism is broadly offered in USA and Chile. I'm not endorsed the Trimax one, probably there are others more effective and suitable for our wheels around the market Cheers Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |
