OK going back to a previous life used to test polymers and this did include some ropes but not winch lines.
The larger the ratio of rope diameter to the drum diameter the higher the apparent strength!
For winches the larger the drum diameter and the larger the pulley block diameter the better
However you do run into certain physical restraints. For instance a 1 m diameter winch drum and 1m diameter pulley block will give an increase in strength over shall we say a 10 cm drum and pulley block. However the increase in strength would be vastly outweighed by the disadvantages of a 1m winch drum on a 4x4
Like many things a practical sensible compromises has to be taken!
