Sorry to hear that, but as with anything mechanical they do occasionally go wrong!
Before all the doom and gloom merchants start posting about poor reliability..blah, blah, blah. To put this into some sort of perspective, my neighbour took delivery oh her new Audi just over three weeks ago and yes after an astonishing 600 miles the vehicle now requires a new engine! You only have one life, live it....forget the cost. 90XS Hardtop |

Do you know which Audi model? I love to slate the newer ones Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Had a call Monday from the dealer to say that a new oil pump was needed and land rover wanted the garage to strip the engine to make sure that there was no damage to any parts.
Had another call today from the dealer to tell me that land rover had no info on the strip down and re build of the engine, thus they had no specs for torquing of any of the nut bolts etc. Apparently Land Rover normally have a procedure for the mechanics to follow on any job like this. Long story short, a new engine is being ordered tomorrow and should hopefully arrive next week. Doesn't look like there is going to be much to do on the 36k service which it was going to have whilst in at the dealers I am enjoying the autobiography sport which I've got whilst mines in for a heart transplant tis a good car especially as I've got a lot of running around to do at this time of year. |

New engine arrived and has been fitted yesterday. The dealer hoped it would be finished of today. Anyway, got a phone call this afternoon . The engine has been running but has a few faults, mainly the fact the turbo seems to be shafted too . And to top it off land rover don't currently have any new turbos available.
As nice as it is to have a range rover sport to thrap round in, it doesn't really help enough to get my work done. It's been handy for all the running around that I needed to do but now I'm starting to need the defender back. Hopefully should found out when a turbo can be sourced tomorrow. |

Sounds like a phone call to LR Customer Relations is in order strongly requesting some kind of compensation...
You could get several years worth of free servicing out of this... Bad luck. Hope it gets sorted sharpish. |

When mine needed a new engine [after only 2 weeks] It took 6 weeks to arrive back on the drive
Complaints to customer relations resulted in a £500 credit with my local dealer ... paid for its first service and a few other bits n bobs Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

Got the number today for LR customer relations, think I will be calling them tomorrow. Think some form of compensation would not be to unreasonable!

How did the Freelander get swapped for a Sport? I know LR Assistance use Enterprise for replacement vehicles and they also have Discos if that would be a better choice than a Sport.
Why do you specifically need a Defender? Lucky escape not having a dealer strip down your engine - definitely not something I would be happy to have done. |

Answers: The freelander got swapped for a vehicle that could tow, enterprise use range rovers, sports and disco's for vehicles with tow bars. The disco and the sport obviously have the detachable tow bars and the range rover also has a detachable tow bar but of a different sort. The sport was the only vehicle they could source quickly. I have had all the above cars from enterprise before. When you need a tow vehicle you have to have the loan car on your own insurance before you can get the tow bar attachment. Why I need a defender? Simple really, for carrying my equipment for work and towing the trailers I use. Plus you don't see many range rover autobiography's getting to the places I go with work |

Got it back 2 days ago. Turns out it did not need a turbo in the end, but has had a new engine. All was fine until yesterday when the rubber turbo hose rubbed through on one of the pulley wheels
Currently sat a the dealers while they replace it for the 3rd time. This is the modified pipe that LR have done the recall on. It seems like they need to change the design again. Also the new engine seems to be leaking a bit of oil, asked them to look at that, just waiting to see what they say about that. |

Mine went back twice for oil leaks after the replacement engine.
On mine it turned out to be the timing chain case - these are made of pressed steel and deform when removed/refitted ... should be a new case fitted if removed [not refitting old one] Worth mentioning to them just in case Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

Well it did not leave the dealers and is sat there waiting to be fixed. The turbo pipe was replaced (which turns out had not rubbed all the way through, but was close to it) and the noise was still there. They didn't know where it was coming from and so need to investigate it. The oil leak is from the oil return pipe from the turbo, or something like that. Hopefully should all be sorted next week.
The dealer quickly sorted another loan car from enterprise so I could get on my way. Now running a new D4 HSE. Just waiting to see what next week brings |
