They should be able to do an on road brake test

They will use a decelerometer and carry out the brake test via a short drive.
Make sure your chosen test centre are familier with transmission handbrakes [as fitted to Defenders] .. these cant be tested in motion [rollers or road test!] Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

Just had my Puma mot`d last Saturday(Pass!) and test station used a decelerometer on a test drive to check brakes. Tested handbrake held on a hill and that was it.

I know how they can do it...and should do it.
When I was up there last week they had a 300 Tdi on the rolling road. Just wondered how that was possible? ( transfer box in neutral?.) Or...are they damaging the car?

Because of the cdl defenders can be rolling roaded. Mine has been 3 times for mot plus once to diagnose a brake fault. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

If you lock the cdl on a single axle rolling road, it will drive off with the other axle. Darren

It is fine to put the Defender onto the rolling brake tester...... and in all honesty it should be as they are much more accurate.
Land Rover manuals state that you can run on a rolling road up to 5mph- no need to put the diff into neutral etc- it's job is to allow the rear axle to move at a different speed to the front. As long as you don't go in excess of 5ish mph you will not do any damage at all. Decelerometer is a terrible form of test and should only be used if a RBT is unavailable- this should also be backed up with proof otherwise the test can be classified as void as it can be easily fooled. Or a 2 axle rolling road. Came across one of those only a few weeks ago for the first time. Clever bit of kit!
