Re sealing the double cab tub to cab!
Ok, I'm thinking of removing the sealant around the clip for the hood on the double cab. The area where it joins the cab.

Is this madness! Everything else I tackle always turns into a far longer job!! Rolling with laughter

I have a very small leak on the drivers side rear corner, and was wondering if it was from here. I'm also going to fit a newer hood so I though I'd tidy it up before and maybe fix the leak!

What would be best to reseal it with, just silicone as at present?

Any issues other people have come across doing it?

Any clips that are just bound to break (like just about all the clips I tackle)

Any advice would be greatly received.

Cheers Thumbs Up 2006 Defender Double Cab- Zambezi Silver

Not sure if you are saying water is leaking into the tub or your cab?

If it's the former then there are two obvious places the water leaks in the tub on both front corners - so a total of four places in all:

Between the galvanised gutter strip and the rear of the cab - the foam seal is not held square to the cab; and

Corner of canopy is too short to the tub side so leaves quite a large gap

I've tried mending the 1st one by re-positioning the gutter strip but to no avail, the mounting point for the end rivet sits right above the bulkhead - I think it's probably a case of getting the sikaflex out.

No real solution for the second, all the hoods I've looked at are the same so just a very poor design. It's either buy a better fitting aftermarket hood or get out the gaffer tape!

Sorry! Poor description.

It's leaking into the cab at the rear drivers side, pooling over wheel arch area. It's only a very small amount but over time it soaks in.

Ok so are you thinking of drilling out all the rivets removing the strip and running a bead of sealant around the cab lower edge before re-fitting the strip.

I don't think there are any other type of fixings?

Cheers Spercat.

Yeah, that's what I was looking at. I just wasn't sure what's below the strip or how the tub joins the cab at that point.

Not sure myself as I've only tried sealing the ends with the strip in place.

If you do remove take a few photos and post them up here. Thumbs Up

I think there are the 5 rivets across the back of the cab (maybe 2 more out of shot - not sure):

and then the 2 that go into the rear tub, one each side:

I'd just want to make sure I could retrieve the heads of those that go into the cab - that many of them rattling around could get annoying over time!

Thanks supacat,

Yeah, that's pretty much what counted, but some of mine are already missing!

I see yours has a foam seal underneath & along the back against the cab. Mines just siliconed in place.

Cheers

Nice colour by the way. That's what I want next! 2006 Defender Double Cab- Zambezi Silver

I've just gone through this exercise. Drilled rivets out, sealed between tub and bulkhead to cover the dreaded foam gasket and then sealed galv angle prior to re-fixing. All dry so far. Thumbs Up I use MS polymer sealant.
