Mantec is best fitting in my opinion.
Terrafirma and scorpion just rip off other people's designs. Your choice |

As a matter of interest Scorpion Racing no longer exists.
Extreme 4x4 rose out of the ashes of Scorpion Racing and I understand is now owned by Durite although the management team at Extreme is the same as SR. I have a strong suspicion that the majority of the protection gear sold by Extreme is made by Safari Equip. Safari Equip has been around for a large number of years. Please do not associate Safari Equipe with the 'antics' of the now defunct Scorpion Racing. Brendan |

I have the Mantec guard on mine and am pleased with it. However one thing you need to be carefull of is rubbing between your diff guard and you tank guard. When my 90 was fully loaded the two decided to meet and the tank guard came off worse. So just make sure you have the clearance when fully loaded. The Diff guard is from COR4.

But no doubt cheaper... and to be honest, how much different (between manufactureres/designs) can you make a bent piece of 5mm plate? |

The Terrafirma ones look good to me, will an aftermarket tank guard fit with a tow step?

The Mantec one does. It also allows you to fit standard tow ball mount. Many others you have to drill. I know this as the first tank guard I had did not have all drill holes and it fowled with the tow bar supports. I used to run the majority of the time without a tow ball as I used the Equip 4x4 recovery eye, but every now and thn when I needed to tow the mantec guard allowed me to change over between the two easily. A five minute job with a battery torque wrench. |

Not much, but see post above above how even a fuel tank guards can differ. It boils down to whether you are prepared to pay a few pounds more to support companies like Mantec, X-Eng, Gwyn Lewis, Devon 4x4 etc that design and test their own products, or support the morality of companies who rip off the designs of small independent companies to shave a few pounds off. Scorpion in the case of X-Eng and Terrafirma in the case of Gwynn Lewis. It's a free world and people can choose to spend their money where they like. Personally I value companies like those mentioned above, so I will buy from them as this enables them to design and test more products. But again, its a personal choice and people are free to do what they like with their own money. |

Cheers, I've had a look and I don't see how you'd be able to fit a tank guard and a tow step, there are two 'arms' that are connected to the step and then bolt to the sides of the tank, as per an adjustable tow bar, so that would mean the arms won't be able to be connected, I guess the 3 bolts that fit into the underneeth of the x-member go straight through the guard instead of the spacer that's used with a tow bar? (if that makes sense?!!). Click image to enlarge |

Is it a LR NAS Step you have? If yes it will fit with mantec guard. If not, you'll need to check with step manufacturer to be sure...

Cheers SteveG, yes it is a O/E Land Rover NAS step, and thanks for the picture, that explains a lot. The only difference is that mine's fitted to my Td5 90. Cheers
