Opinions please...
I recently had a fault with the td5, as it turned out, caused by me not pushing a wire back on properly after removing the dash. The engine kept cutting out and the engine management light came on.

In my haste to sort this problem out I had it plugged in at the local independent garage. It came up with a number of possible faults, one being the maf sensor. So before I stripped the dash and discovered my error the same garage lent me a brand new OEM sensor in order to rule it out. Mine was reading fine during the diagnostic test with engine running. The new one didn't cure it of course due to the undiscovered loose wire.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, during the maf swap I noticed mine was of the cheapie copied variety, verified by parts guru at the garage.

It IS working correctly but now I know it isn't OEM it is plaguing my mind. Would you change it for OEM, knowing they can be problematic or wait for it to fail?

The part is around £80 though, however, touring France again this summer so need a reliable motor.

That is my dilemma. Opinions would be gratefully received.

Even if you dont change it and it fails it wont cut off the engine it will just keep running "normally" but probably will affect the MPG.

If it fails and you suspect it makes your engine cough the disconnect it and go merrily. Augusto

wouldn't change it either , wait until it fails . If you find your power to get poor , disconnect it . If its makes a hugh diff its mostly a sign that the one you have is faulty . But you can leave it disconnected until home or you get a replacement but it will ( not probably ) effect the mpg . Postmanpat
