alantd,

hi,
it never ever juddered before, it did loose power on pick up several times about the same time they kept replacing the fuel pressure reg last year but i told them it was the EGR ! after 3 visits the EGR was replaced and the lack of power on pick up never returned !

Early on in the year as i said the transfer box seal was deemed to be leaking so it was replaced, the mastic sealant didnt seal and the oil came out Big Cry back to the dealers on a truck !

Got it back and never really bothered looking underneath for some time and when i did Oil seemed to be dripping off the hand brake housing and the hand brake wasn't as it should be. This was about March / April last year ?

The new software version sank my previous excellent fuel consumtion and the whole love story went down hill rapidly from there on in ! resulting in NO windscreen wipers from about the middle of Dec all xmas and new year where it sat on my drive unable to use. By this time i had decided to get shut of it as it had really P!SSED me off, especially when i got the recall telling me my Hand brake was leaking, Bow down DEFENDER XS CSW 08 TONGA GREEN

Hi,

I just had software update (patch QO68) on my 2007 110 TD4.

Now, I have a very strange RPM behaviour when changing gears from 3->4 / 4->5 / 5->6 : engine fells down to 1500 rpm and its difficult to relaunch until having the vehicule to be shaken.

But,I feel it better to drive as long as I keep same gear.

So I feel a big difference, maybe I have to learn drive it with the new settings ! I will try this during one week before going back to garage !

Regards,
Eric

I had mine back into the dealer who said there is a new technical bulletin on this with a list steps for the technicians to go through, interestingly he said they needed to order some new wiring as part of the remedial work.

My symptoms are a flat spot in each gear at around 2500 rpm.

They originally suggested a new egr but now suggest the fault may be elsewhere.

On thr 20Th Jan LTB00254 was out part of it reads.

Quote:
A customer might express concern of a loss of power with the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illuminated.

Cause: Engine vibrations fracture the wiring to the turbo modulator.

Pete, thanks for the information I am going to give this to Land Rover on Monday. Do you have a copy of the bulletin?

Cheers Thumbs Up

Woe is me Big Cry

Mine has turned all erratic. The problem that the patch was supposed to resolve - power loss - started happening much more frequently (although it has been colder - which is one of the supposed triggers) and the MIL came on. The MIL then went out a couple of days later.

Then tonight it has started revving in spikes. I accelerate and as I lift off it continues to gun it before dropping, revving, dropping, revving...

It's going in to the dealer in a few weeks (I'm abroad quite a bit and can't get it there) so they'll have to find out what's wrong.

Is the general consensus that this is purely a software problem, a sticking fuel control valve or the EGR valve?

alantd,

A forum friend of Panama had a "similar" problem time ago and finally was the EGR.

At the beginning the dealer thought in the software patch, but its not solve the issue.
Failure was different from yours. As he describes, was a noise in the motor that appears when was cold (well Panama are not really cold).
If your EGR is in worst condition maybe a power loss can occur

I hope can help

Thanks Eduardo.

My dealer is 'on trial'. They appear not to have any technical initiative or skill but can hold a spanner and just have Land Rover Technical Support on speed dial. I can do that so really the only difference between them and me at this point is their 4-post lift.

I'm not going to accept "we couldn't repeat the problem". They won't be getting their loan vehicle back until mine is resolved. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

Sorry I should of rounded this post off since I started it -

The software patch which I thought had broken my Land Rover resulting in a very juddery tranmission during lift off was eventually fixed by Land Replacing the ECU. They spent around a week trying to resolve the issue explaining that they could not revert back to the original software, then one day they tried another ECU off a new defender in stock, hey presto all sorted and I'm back in love again.

Mrwoo,

Just a doubt: New ECU installed had also the patch or was with the old software?

If the new ECU have the patch, probably during the ECU software upgrade an error ocurred (EPROM memories are quite sensitive to errors) that gives you the malfunctioning.
Another thing to think about it Rolling Eyes

As far as I know Eduardo the new ECU has new software, not a patched version though a master copy. The software is definately not the same as the original as I've noticed certain changes which are not necessarily a problem.
