Stage 2 is so worth it
So a little over a week and a half ago, I went to the Gadget Show. As it happens, not too far away from IRB Developments.....

So although I soent virtually nothing at the Gadget Show, the same can't be said for the day overall.

Stage 2 and the associated bits... Plus a couple of little tweaks and.....

WOW

Having come from a very nimble sports car to the Defender, have to say I was never going to compare the two vehicles.

But now I must admit, I miss the Lotus ever so slightly less than I did... Stage 1 is good, don't get me wrong, but the Stage 2 is awesome

Thank you Ian and Ada Very Happy

Hi, I'm new to this forum, been on another forum for a while but got a bit fed up of some members and stupid comments, hello to all anyway.

So, you think that the stage 2 is worth the extra? Did you drive stage 1 and 2 to notice the difference?

I've done most things to my 90 to get it into good shape, it'd been used infrequently by its one previous owner but it needed some TLC to get it to be as nice as it is now, but now it looks the part and is mechanically perfect, I'm thinking of having a tune, either Bell Auto's or Alive, I've given up on IRB after leaving messages and calling, no reply.

I'm about to fit a full exhaust with no cat or centre silencer, EGR removal, filter etc, so do I go for the stage 1 remap or fit a bigger intercooler and go the whole hog? Is there any problems with pushing the engine for that bit more or sit within the comfort zone of 160 - 170 bhp?

I'll also be making a trip to Ashcroft to get the ratios done after a tune.

Cheers Steve,
Not got a bigger intercooler or boost box, I've seen some bigger intercoolers advertised and I'm tempted to do the work myself to be honest, maybe because I love tinkering, if I fit a larger intercooler is it then the same or similar tune at a supplier, JE etc? Will it save me anything doing all the work myself and the having a remap?

I had a Stage 1 remap shortly after I bought the Defender. It was a pretty good and the improvement was noticeable.

A friend had gone down a similar route, and went for the Stage 2 very soon after.

For me, it took a couple of years - mainly because the timing wasn't right - me getting up to IRB rather than anything else.

The Stage 2 is another step up. At the same time I had the clutch spring mod - makes for a much lighter clutch. the increase in power makes the Defender a more responsive drive.

I can't say that I am pushing the performance of the car, but change gear less, cruise effortlessly at 70, smooth acceleration from 50 up - well generally actually

In addition to the Stage 2, I have a larger intercooler, silicon hoses, egr removal, de-cat and a little box of tricks to help with it all Smile

Thanks Gambit, food for thought, to be honest I don't drive quickly any more, it'd just be nice to know that the Defender was set up correctly and it was nicer to drive with bags of torque, I'll have a ring round (if I can get an answer this time) and see what's best...or the pocket allows. Thanks, good first day on here.
