Brownish, Red Powder from Transmission extension case.
Hi Guys

Has anyone noticed a brownish red powder coming from the transmission extension case tell-tale hole, (the hole that shows you when you have an oil leak). It almost looks like it could be rust of some sort but from what?

When I did a gearbox oil change last week I noticed it and wiped it away. Today I saw the brownish red powder is back.

I did drive through some deep water over the Easter weekend and I also launch a boat in deepish water from time to time and thought this might have caused something to start rusting in the extension case.

Should I be concerned about it?

Thanks
Peter

Put some of the powder on a sheet of paper and move a magnet underneath it.
Should show if it's rust.
