Turbo gasket sealant?
Just about to re-fit my turbo to the exhaust manifold with a new Nakatanenga gasket. Does it make sense to use some kind of high-temperature sealant, or should I fit it dry and hope for the best?

Cheers

As long as your mating surfaces are clean and flat fitting dry should be fine.

Cheers Smile

It's the "flat" I'm not entirely sure about but I don't want the hassle of taking everything off to skim yet. That's why I wondered if I could "cheat" a bit. Oh well, I'll try with (yet) another gasket and see.

Cheers - bought some off Fleabay - I'll just smear a thin layer on both sides of the copper gasket to fill small leaks Thumbs Up

*Update*

Well, sadly the Firegum didn't work either, so I have to assume one (or both) manifold mating surfaces is warped Evil or Very Mad
So eventually I did something radical...

The Nakatanenga gaskets arrive with a rough surface (not sure of the reason), so I sanded down the manifold surfaces by hand until they were absolutely smooth (using a vacuum cleaner to remove dust afterwards) and also the gasket until it was shiny. Then I filed down the corners a bit, until there was a ring of thicker material left around the hole. This way, when the bolts were tightened at the corners, there was more pressure around the centre. After a few long trips, and re-tightening the bolts whilst hot, it doesn't seem to leak any more - fingers crossed Confused

Thanks to all for advice. Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
