For me the big issue would be the potential repair bills. A mate of mine had a TDV6 and the amount he shelled out for a suspension issue would make your teeth curl. For that very reason I would NEVER consider one despite being really impressed when I had one as a 'loaner.'. Please keep the 300TDI and forget your flight of fancy.
If this helps....read on... http://landroverhell.com/article/4009/ More info here: http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic11609.html http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic12862-45.html If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Sound like everyone says the same, the Td6 is underpowered for its weight.
Some horrible reading in those links above |

TDV8 for us, great engine and THE best car I have owned. Still have LR extended warranty and all the issues have been fixed under this.
Running costs are much more expensive compared to the 110 but if I had to have only 1 car it would be the RR by a long shot. Just be aware they were a £70k+ car when new and come with the costs associated with that. |

Thats my main worry, I assume most owners have the income to cope with this, whilst I can afford to buy a used one I don't have an executives income to repair any faults at the drop of a hat. I could stretch to about £18k which might get me a 2007 TDV8 with around 100k miles. But a RR this age/mileage might be ready for some expensive repairs. But then again Im not really sure how expensive repairs might be. I guess the suspension/compressor is an obvious concern. |

It isnt just the repairs but the day to day running costs that can catch people out.
Insurance is twice the price of the defender, road tax is £450+, fuel economy 21mpg combined and then tyres, servicing etc. My advice would be if you can stretch to one from a LR dealer that has the fully comprehensive LR warranty ( from memory must be less than 6 years and 70k miles) or find a private sale that has the warranty available to transfer over to you. |

True, i'd hate to have to start doing overtime at work to pay for it all . Whats the approx cost of tyres by the way? Perhaps the pleasure of owning one would make me more sensible with my money and stop me buying stuff I dont need? Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. |

tdv6 has only just come out in the L405 i personally wouldn't bother with a L322 td6. get a tdv8 3.6 or 4.4 or L405 with the tdv6. Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

I looked at getting FFRR a while back but decided D3 would be my better option as I could get one within my budget with LR approved warranty as repair bills on these can be high.
I would not want to own a D3 or FFRR without a warranty. |

There's also a significant difference in safety features which may be invaluable.
I found the v6 to be underpowered and the v8 to be a cracker albeit a bit more sedate than the D4. |
