How do you change the air filter ?
This is embarrassing.

I've just spent the morning changing Gbox, Tbox, diff oils and greasing the props and I thought I'd change the air filter too. Looks easy. Just release the two clips and give it a wiggle I thought. But I wiggled and wiggled and the top of the airbox stayed stuck at the back where its tucked under the wing. I have done a search and there's nothing on how to change it. Is it really that easy and am I just thick because no ones had to ask before ? Laughing Please tell me how. Ta

it hinges at the back in under the wing, lift it up a bit and then pull towards the engine bay, hinges will then 'unclip' and top will come off. Cheers

Just did it. Very very fiddly. Everything's in the way and you have to be extremely careful not to damage the paper element when you put it all back together. Its also hard to verify that the back lugs have engaged properly. You have to use a torch to see. No wonder there have been complaints about dealers not refitting the top properly.

I think I'd rather do the gearbox oil - and there's not many who would agree with that ! Cheers

Its easier to remove the pipe thus you can hinge up the top of the box Chris

Yes I think I'll do that next time Dieselhead . I'm no mechanic and 'removing pipes' is a bit Ed China for me in the sense that I may not be able to reassemble it properly (like he would) Embarassed

and how about the airbox dieselhead? How do you get it out? is there bolts underneath, i can see a couple of plastic thingys. or do i just force it up out rubber bungs like on the td5?

To be honest I dont know what holds the air box in place as I have never needed to remove a puma one

I am sure someone will advise us shortly Thumbs Up

Pop rivets under the wheel arch that can be drilled to release the air box.

Do not put the filter in the box but hold it on the top so that you can engage the top correcly.
I am sure it is not clear .

yes - and rather stupidly, the turret cover of the shock absorber has a self-tapping screw which is UNDER the air box...

If you ever fancy replacing the front shocks, it may be worth removing that screw whilst you are in there Thumbs Up [/i] Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

I had a problem with the air filter on mine which got saturated by rain because the oafs employed by the stealer didn't put it back properly. I do it myself now and I unscrew the air pipe and move that out of the way, undo the clips and lift the front of the airbox lid up.
This makes taking the filter out easy and the lid comes out as well.
To reinstall, fit filter into airbox top and keeping the nearest part to the engine tilted back towards you slip the part closest to you under the wing and push gently back.
To get the filter to sit nicely in position gently try to close the lid by pushing the felt/paper parts of the filter back towards you and it will suddenly drop into position. Refix clips.
The rear of the box lid should now be under the clips but it's sometimes still not a good fit but that seems to be it with the Puma.......
