Dolby vs SRS TheatreSound
Looking at a new TV and have narrowed it down to a couple.
Apart from price and colour (ones white which will suit Killer90, and one being Black) by the looks of it, one has Dolby and the other has SRS TheatreSound.

Is there a great deal between sound output with no additional amps/speakers involved? 1999 Defender TD5 110

Funnily enough the TV I am looking at is a Samsung 40" LED 3D HD 1080p SmartTV UE40ES6710 or 6540. 1999 Defender TD5 110

The problem with these nice new slim tv's is they can't fit decent size speakers in them!!
Don't think there is much difference between the two, I would choose the best picture quality.

I haven't used the speakers on any of my tv's over the last 18 years, always using amps, so when I do hear the built in speakers they always sound a bit thin and tinny.
The problem is you don't always want the extra wires and amps everywhere! Bit of a compromise really between thin tv and decent sound!

As an alternative to having speakers all over the living room from these surround systems I simply popped into Richer Sounds (there's a branch near you) and bought a decent small amp, two compact speakers, quality interconnects and speaker cable then mounted them on the shelf below the TV on a 3 shelf unit (with the sky box, DVD on the bottom shelf). Many visitors have commented on how great it sounds and its compact too. The sound and component quality is also miles better than those boxes of crap quality speakers you get from the likes of Argos and it works out cheaper too !

SRS is just an effect created with two speakers to give a surround effect, true Dolby sends each audio track to the correct speaker.

A real AV amp all the way!!

I just finished my set up and although it takes some work hiding speakers and wires once done it is amazing!

Yamaha/Arcam bi-amped main TDL (the original transmission line floorstanders, not your more recent RS rubbish), di-pole front surrounds,MS centre and MS 906 floorstanders for the rear channels. Enough wumph to make a 90 year-old nun toss a placenta. Rolling with laughter

I researched amps/speakers etc for ages, then ended up getting a Yamaha sound bar that sits under my TV. Seeing as my tv is in the corner of the lounge and I dont sit square on to it, I didn't think I would get the full 7:1 experience. I then added a sub to the sound bar and its ace. Not as good as 7:1 but far better than the tv speakers.
