Ok I have had two bits of conflicting advice....
Firstly I was told the Cam belts on my 90 300TDi should be changed every 70K. And secondly I was told dont bother replacing it as they never fail.... So the question is what should I do or does anyone have a definative answer for me? Thank you..... |

70k BEFORE it fails!
all cambelts need changing. Tdi only has one cambelt. easy to do on a 300 too. |

you will prob find that what ever timing belt is needed has already been done, bit as mentioned its worth asking. i do mine every 3 years regardless, for the cost of a belt and a few pulleys its worth it. Cheers

Think I paid about £150 for my local indi LR garage to so it all. Bit it was some time ago so can't recall the exact price.

I'm a complete novice when it comes to costs though, so I may be unfair. I just buy the bits and do it all myself.
I guess it depends what's included in a major service. Filters, cam belt, coolant, brake fluid - what else? Parts would be around £100 I would think. |

I'd say £400-£500 inc vat . for oils , belt and kit is reasonable
If idlers, tensioners all oils and good check over completed. Trouble is finding someone that will actually check the truck over. Most just drop oil , change filters, and not check it over ie Preventitive maintenance ........ Have fun be happy |

Sorry, that was just for the cambelt change, with new pulley (or whatever its called). Garage supplied everything. |
