Very common and usually caused by the transmission brake needing adjustment. Steve.

Definitely agree with MOG (who has suffered my whining about brakes and gearboxes in the past) - the transmission brake is notorious for causing a whole load of "gearbox-banging" symptoms and the clattering of the brake shoes against the drum travels all the way up the driveline. The LR dealer can usually reduce the problem but it's always there (unless you fit an X-brake).
When you have the problem, try pulling the brake lever and releasing it. You may feel the jolt again or find it has gone (for a while) afterwards. Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

^^^Ze means gently ease on and partially apply the transmission brake, if you value your transmission you most certainly don't want to go yanking it hard on when in motion Steve.

Got the car booked in with Park of Ayr on Thursday.
Had to agree to possible charge of 3 hours diagnostic work. They are going to remove the gearbox and inspect. Also going to check the handbrake issue. Also overdue the recall on the turbo pipe too! Let you know how I get on with them, I noticed Keith on here said he recieved good service from this branch recently, so here is hoping I get them on a good day also. I have asked for the latest engine management update as well, I believe that can make abig difference. Thanks for your advice guys, much appreciated. |
