Fitting a reverse switch to an Ex Mod 110 with LT77 box.
My 1985 Ex MoD 110 doesn't have a reversing light or switch on the gearbox, so I'd like to fit one. Mounting the lamp is simples, as the army drilled a selection of suitable mounting holes at the rear and I can fill one with a lamp mounting bolt and another the cable!
It is a N/A 2.5 diesel with LT77 box, both duck blue indicating a military refurb at some point.
Fitting the switch on the gearbox is proving more difficult as I can't see anywhere the switch would go. All the pictures I have seen show it on the rear of the gearbox top plate that takes the gear stick etc. Mine only has the blanking plug and nothing else.
Is this a military box? Is there such a thing as I believe LT77 boxes on civvy 110s had reversing lights, I may be wrong and usually am!
So can I fit a switch and if so what part number is it. PRC8204 or PRC2911 are the options I can see.
All advice and photos very welcome.
Thanks in advance.
Ian

You can of course still legally fit a switch on the dash to operate reversing lights provided that there is a warning light (which can be in the switch) to tell you they are on. Not as convenient as a switch on the box, but useful if you need to shut/lock gates behind you in the dark, and good for giving the twit in the car behind a scare at the traffic lights.

PRC2911 should do you.

There 'should' be two blanking plugs at the back of the gearbox. A larger one near the middle of top layte, and a smaller one to its left. It's the smaller you want - it's about 8mm in size. The Switch is about M8 thread too.

have a google about, there are plenty of pictures on other forums.

Hi Dobby,

I've just taken the access plate off and had a good look and under the very thick splat of paint there is a bolt head! it looks like an 8mm thread too so I'm hoping it is the correct one. It is where everybody said it should be but without a good strong light it wasn't obvious>

So thanks everybody for your help.
Now to order a PRC2911.

Cheers

Ian

No worries.. glad you found it. Very Happy

Presume you've got the wiring loom tied up around there too?

Now that is interesting as I couldn't see any breakout in the loom at that point. Yes there's the transfer box switch feed but nothing else. Further investigation needed in case it is there and well hidden. It will save me finding a 12v ignition ON feed in the engine bay and having to tie wrap the single cable all the way down the chassis.

Cheers

Yes, that's the problem I've got too. The loom 'should' have correct connections in them, but I can't see them anywhere.

The wires are there at the o/s rear wiring box, so at the back I'm going to poach one of the fog lights. I'll take the n/s fog light and wire that into the switch loom, then put a clear sidelight lens on it to turn it into a reverse light.
