shall I get my defender puma chipped ?
Hi all , been debating getting my defender chipped but its quite exspensive and want to know if its worth it! I do a lot of towing and I am towing my new twin axle to the south of france this year and i have been told that chipping it could give me more power and better fuel consumption ! Or would I be better off just removing egr and fitting straight through pipe etc... any advise ? Confused

Personally I wouldn't chip it I would have it remapped a big debated subject on here that all people having different opinions of tuner preference I'm on the Hertfordshire Bedfordshire border and help you but it depends what you want
Having remapped will certainly make it nice to tow a trailer also though if your towing a trailer is probly worth having a bigger intercooler to keep your inlet temps as low as poss drop me a pm if you need anything else steve 2015 2.2 tdci hardtop xs

Welcome to the forum 935tbone,

Remapping is a much more practical, functional and safer method to increase performance and economy on your Land Rover it also ensures the engine operates within safety parameters instead of just throwing more fuel at the engine as many chips do.

Do a search using 'remap' as your keyword and have a route through the 209 threads available, there's bound to be a few that will suit your needs.

Had our 2.4 remapped better gear changes as revs higher load of extra power and as long as you keep speed under 70 mph doing 378 mile to tank of fuel  same map as chris kill sells

Having had every engined (less the 2.4 Puma) Defender that's been made, I can say without doubt that the current 2.2 is the best to drive on and off road that I have had. I really don't get the whole engine mapping thing for Defenders, but I look at them differently. To me its a working vehicle that I use to hump my dogs, guns and clobber about in that needs to be able to go off road. The only reason I would consider a re-map is if someone offered one that offered considerable fuel savings. I didn't stumble into Defender ownership blind to the fuel consumption figures that some appear to have done, but any savings would be welcome! I will wait until the cost of mapping a 2.2 comes down considerably before I would think about getting it done as any savings on fuel would take years to recoup!

I agree with the years to recoup bit as when remapped you seem to acquire a right club foot free gratis with the map as the vehicle is a much more capable one and even more of a joy to drive.

As for the waiting bit I think you'll have a long one. The cost of a 2.4 remap today is pretty much the same as when it first came out and there's only a marginal difference in cost between all the bespoke suppliers.
