Mot`s will always be a subject that people will have different views on. Even the test itself although there are written guidelines for the tester can have a different out come depending on who actually does the test as every bodies interpretation could be different. what will pass in one garage could fail in another and of course every vehicle owner will be different as to how strict they want the tester to be. Some people will run their car on a shoestring budget so want the tester to be as lenient as possible when testing Others will want their vehicle to be spot on and will thank the tester for failing a borderline item.
I have a great relationship with my MOT station as I have been using it for years and they know me well. However they absolutely hate Land Rovers and always complain when I turn up with one! They rarely fail anything and will even sort headlamp alignment. replace a bulb or tighten a loose shocker that I might have missed without charge when it is on the ramp.
They have passed my Freelander for the last 6 years even although it should have failed on miss spaced number plates. They do however point them out and tell me that it will fail because of them but it never does. As to the sticker obscuring the window and causing a fail I would agree that that is a little petty not to move it to ensure a pass although if when you went to collect it and they told you that was all it failed on then you should have the opportunity to move it and then get a pass with no retest fee.Having said that anyone who works with the public will know how unreasonable people can be at times. Innocently moving a sticker could result in a tirade from someone who takes offence at someone else who thought they were doing them a good turn! Believe me I know it happens!
