See my post in "Is your clutch on the way out", page 3, in the "Technical" section. I have exactly the same issue! Thought I was the only one!

"I've had a similar problem - the answer according to the dealer was to replace both the Fuel metering valve and the fuel pressure relief valve at the same time. I had the pressure relief valve changed on its own to start with but the problem re-occurred - touch wood it's been OK since"
The above was lifted from the Topic below, it's a fairly common problem, mine does it just haven't got round to going to the dealers yet. http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic1151.h...ugh+engine Original Member Pie n Pea Club. 110 HCPU Tipper |

Mine used to do it and go into limp mode. Patch fixed it, no problems since.

Mine did this, even after all the usual fuel preesure relief valves etc etc were all replaced !
i phoned land rover assist when the warning lights came on the dash, a most helpful technician turned up and diagnosed faulty EGR valve ! of course he thought it had been removed but no it was completely standard. Sometimes it would hold back and seem to clatter like mad then pick back up then throw up the warnings on the dash but more often than not it did it without throwing up the warnings. My dealer who is very very helpful asked me to come in he gestured that if it would make me happy then they would replace it................... So the valve was replaced and it hasnt happened since !!! Fingers crossed DEFENDER XS CSW 08 TONGA GREEN |

This may be a cure for the power loss problem some people experience. After driving only a couple of miles and the engine temp just coming off cold, the engine tone completely changed to sounding like very heavy pinking in a petrol car. The engine warning light came on and the car lost power. After switching the engine off and waiting a few minutes everything was back to normal except the warning light stayed on. I drove to the dealer and they downloaded a software update which seems to have cured he problem although it is too early to be sure. Ive also posted this reply under another topic which seems to deal with the same thing.

Mine did it on the way home tonight I've had the patch done too. I just turned it off and on at a junction and all was fine - bloody annoying, though. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |

Been happening to mine since new and I have had the EGR and fuel metering valve replaced. No warning lights or limp mode, just a few seconds of rattling then back to normal. Haven't noticed it since the software patch but it usually only occurs during cold weather and there is none of that around here now (unlike you poor sods over in Blighty). 2007 Defender 110

I had the same problem last year - I additionally had the fuel rail changed (which didn't do anything on it's own) then the fuel relief and fuel metering valves (as far as I know!) - the problem stopped, but this coincided with warmer weather, so wasn't sure whether it was fixed. However , no problems this winter, so seems to have been sorted - though that could be the patch 1953 80

Mine appears to be exactly as described in the service bulletin:
When cold (<5>2000 RPM with some throttle (LR says >35%) it loses power. I don't get the MIL but it won't then let me go above 50mph. If I shut it down and restart then it clears but sometimes will come back. I've had the ECU update so it's going back to the dealer for further investigation (I bet they say they can't replicate it and there's nothing they can do). The dealer hasn't shown much initiative recently. I took it in because my front windscreen heater wasn't working properly. They did "some tests" but couldn't find anything wrong. Bear in mind it was -5 deg C and they could have just breathed on the window to demonstrate it! I took a load of photos to prove it to them. They've just come back to me and said they want to do more tests One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |

[moving my own post to this thread instead as I got lost following links ]
I am also experiencing some sort of "engine misfire" (dunno how to better describe it...) with little throttle when the engine is between ~2000/~2500 rpm. When the engine is cold, it's all fine, the problem appears when it's warming up. I waited for the Q068 update this morning (unfortunately the dealer had no idea what version, "the latest" is all he could tell), in the hope that it would cure the problem, but to my great disapointment, it's still happening (although it *seems* slightly better). Nevertheless, I think this is a big annoyance, it makes the car a pain to drive, and the car is less than 2 months and has less than 3000km on the odometer. Beside, I am pretty sure that doesn't do any good to the clutch, gearbox, etc. I never had the MIL showing though. Do you think it's the same problem you guys experienced? |
