it's unlocking itself?
Hi lads. I have noticed over the last few weeks that when I am returning to the car or go to open it in the morning, it's occasionally been open. At first I thought it was me, forgeting to lock it in the first place, but today my wife said that she definitley locked it when she went out, only to find it open when she returned to it. It has only been doing it since I did the brilliant mod to extend the remote locking range?. Has this happened to antone else?. Cheers,

I suppose it's possible. It has got one hell of a range now, but I'm not sure. I'll monitor it. Cheers,

I really want to do this mod (need the time and might wait for the weather to warm a little). However, my son is forever getting hold of my keys and pressing all the buttons. I'm never worried because, of course, the rang doesn't extend beyond the end of the key fob but it occurred to me this morning that with my new super-blipper I'd have to keep the keys out of reach. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

Trying not to sound stoopid BUT why bother with this mod? I open my fender to either get in it/ put something in or take something out........with that in mind i am normaly within 5-10 meters when it will unlock/lock.

I'm curious - what is this mod (link)? In answer to Glynparry25, I need it badly as there are some spots around my vehicle where it seems the device totally blacks out. I can stand right behind the car trying to unlock and open the rear door and nothing happens unless I hold the fob up against my head. Been like this since new and the dealer has checked it and replaced the batteries once for me but it's still the same - ie. pathetic. It only seems to work consistently when approaching the front doors, anywhere else around the car and it's pot luck. We also occasionally leave the car unlocked when our hands are full taking groceries into the house and it would be nice to be able to lock the car without having to go back outside. 2007 Defender 110

As above. I've got window guards and and a cargo barrier in the rear of mine. They act as a Faraday and reduce the signal strength from the rear. I can't lock mine if I get stuff out the back unless I go round to the side - a bit of a pain when you're in a tight car park and you've got your arms full of stuff.

With my wife's FL2, I've gotten used to being lazy and locking it from quite some distance as I walk away (usually to try and recover my son, who's walked off). Would be handy in the Defender too. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

Looks like I have got a good one then Smile. The not opening has only happened once or twice to me where I have had to press it two or three times and then it opened. Also the thought of a theif who has got hold of my keys just standing at the entrance of a car park pressing it to find out wich car mine is would worry me- at least if he has to walk by every Land Rover pressing it will either put him off or at least take a load more time.

Have you tried just re-routing the origional antenna?

Richard,

I have possibly had something similar.

I definately locked it then the wife went to get in, the door opened and the alarm went off.

I make sure i check the doors now, but it hasn't happened since.

many times I can unlock or lock my landy unintentionally by having the keys in the pocket and bending over to tie my shoe! Scares the stuffing out of you when the horn goes off and you are not expecting it! ( doors open that is)
maybe that is happening? 2008 Defender 110 60 year Edition (sold unfortunately)

Rerouting Original Antenna?
Glyn,

Maybe I missed something in your post but you suggested 'rerouting the original antenna!' When I carried out this modification to extend it without going into too much detail the original antenna was only about 4-6 inches long and this short length precluded rerouting and was the reason for such a small range of operation. (Off topic - Thanks for the help with the steering guard instructions - in case you missed my fitting post!)
The modification is a good one if you've got your hands full or up to your t1ts in kids. My fault for trying to single handedly trying to repopulate Wiltshire, Dorset and Oxfordshire over the years!
