Which Land Rover Show? - Advice Sought
We have attended Peterborough and Billing in the past, but not for a few years. We're now based in Northern Scotland and can really only afford the time and money to visit one show this year. The question is; which one?? Big Cry

The things we enjoy most are the camping, the trade stands / exhibitors, and just ogling everyone else's Land Rovers and camping kit. Don't really go for the off-road course, as I spend my days driving around 60 acres of woodland for a living.

So, all those who have been to the shows more recently, where should I spend my hard-earned pennies?? Peterborough, Billing or Harrogate.

(Edit to add: We're so far north that relative distance is immaterial. They're all a "bl**dy long way south"! 2012 Defender Utility Wagon

I have only ever been to Peterborough, so I don't have anything to compare it to. LRO are only partnering with live promotions for one show this year which is Peterborough, although live are still running billing as far as I know. Mark S

Ive been to every Billing since 1992 and most Peterborough shows since about 2000 (as well as many others).

Although many people are saying Billing has had it's day as every year there is something bad about it be it the weather, the date, the security, the toilets etc - but at least every year, without fail it has been different! I think a lot of my affection for it is based on it's history rather than the present show.

Peterborough used to be too small and did not really have the 'critical mass' to be a really good show, but in the last 4 years that has changed. I think, all things considered it is now my favorite! Particularly since the weather is usually good as our Summers have become later in the year. Peterborough now feels like Billing did in the late 90's.

It's a nice, family friendly atmosphere and doesn't seem to attract those 'elements' that have cast a shadow over Billing and other shows. Also, for the traders it's better value than others which makes them more willing to haggle! (you can quote me on that!).

In the olden days, the Indoor 4x4 show at Donington used to be great. However, 'Total off road' mag became involved and messed around with the format & changed the date and venue - which ruined it! This year, the original organiser (David Round from Llama 4x4) is organising a new show, back at Donington Race Track on the original dates - and the response from the traders at least, has been tremendous with it selling out of trade space which is unknown these days!

Although it's not Land Rover specific, I like seeing how people with other makes of vehicle have solved the same issues we have. It also attracts a much wider cross section of the trade with many smaller, 'more interesting' companies!

Largely agree with SimonR.

The Spring Adventure at Harrogate. Am quite hopeful for this show. The Driffield show was slowly going downhill and was an awkward place to get to. The Great Yorkshire Show Ground being just off the A1 is a lot more accessible then Driffield so hopefully will prove a bigger attraction .

Another show to consider is the Premier Overland Adventure Travel Event on 30th May-2nd June Details HERE

I know that it may be a bit far for you to travel to, but I really liked the Bristol and West LR show. As it's just starting off (was the second show last year) it feels like Billing did back in the day.

I have been to many of the shows over the years but never to the SPring Adventure so thinking I may try that this year.

Having said that I have found all the shows a bit hit and miss. Some have been good and others not so for various reasons.

I can't help but think that there needs to be more quality rather than quantity. Many of the shows I have attended have blended into one as they all seem to be so similar.

The off road courses seem to be pretty good. I often want to buy parts at the shows but so often find that the traders don't have stock with them. It's good to ogle other peoples Defenders and meet the owners and chat to them. The arena 'entertainment' alwasy seems to be a bit pants and needs shaking up with some fresh ideas.

I would love to see pratical workshops/demos on various common workshop jobs etc

I've given up on Billing but not for the usual reasons. It always falls on my wife's birthday (or the weekend nearest) one year she suggested that we went. After an hour she was adamant that I had already seen evertything so should go home.

I never miss Peterborough
