Had same problem !
Disconnect the fuel arrival to the pump (quick connect - no tool equired) Put an empty bottle at the outlet Make a kind of seal at the fuel filler with a piece of flat rubber and same in wood to press and a hole And blow air Fill apart of the bottle reconnect the fuel line And START ! |

Do you have any more details?
- Was it turning over but not starting? Or was it not even turning over? - Was the solenoid relay under the seat activating? - Was the solenoid making the 'click' as it was activated? - Was there a good supply to the starter? Two problems i've heard of (and experienced one of) if it was not turning over: - Faulty starter solenoid relay under the drivers seat, either totally broken / loose or not providing enough current to activate the solenoid. - The nut on the solenoid o/p can become loose and also dirty, making for a poor contact (this happened to me and my local indie said he had seen 3/4 with this over the last 2-3 years). Thanks for both your replies! Phoenix 90 - The engine was not even turning over. The solenoid relay under the seat was activating and was clicking but then looking in the engine bay to the starter motor it looked as if the solenoid relay was the problem at the stater motor end. BUT once the starter motor was bypassed by the Technician the engine tried to start but still did not get going. The Battery was all fine. I believe like you that it must be something wrong with the solenoid but we shall see! Also which im sure has nothing to do with it was the Air Con fuse had blown randomly?

If it's under warranty why did they say call the AA, surely it should have been Land Rover Assist? Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |

Yes you are right but we were advised to call AA to get it started and take it to the dealer as they are only 2 miles away. Only problem is AA man couldn't get it started either. The dealer said LR Assist were too busy and as it was so close, would be easier to take it to them direct!

My 2011 has occasional non start issues but only with a spare set of keys that were programmed by a maindealer. I only received one set of keys with the vehicle so the second set was ordered in for me.When it arises -very rarely- I just lock/unlock the vehicle with the keyfob and it starts with a turn of the key. This makes me think that it is a programming glitch as the original set of keys work fine. I've heard of a number of people on this site who lock/unlock with the keyfob when they have a nonstart. Does'nt seem to be any harm just a glitch somewhere. I know it should'nt be there but it is and is easily surmounted. Regard it as an added security measure. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Do the Puma defenders still have the accident sensor on bulkhead that was on TD5's? If so, this could be another cause.

The AA are Land Rover Assist. If your lucky you'll get a dedicated patrol (usually in a Disco 4) if not a normal patrol specialising in LR (me) then if they are all busy a normal patrol. Dealer would of told you to ring the LR Assist number I assume? Then they will of sent the closest best suited patrol.
