There are quite alot of discovery v8 and 200/300 tdi with 300,000+ mileage just depends how much money to spend to keep the engine running or just get a new car.
Most of the 200tdi defender on ebay have 130,000 + mileage 2003 TD5 90 |

2002 Td5 110, just over 150,000 miles. Enginewise has had new injector seals, injector harness, seals in pressure regulator and contacts in the starter solonoid. Not big jobs and not overly expensive. I've done the odd propshaft UJ, rear drive flanges, tightened wheel bearings, pretty much general maintenance. I did have my doubts on the clutch recently but as the drier weather has started the "slipping" issues aren't showing themselves as much, not bad for an original
Just watch, I'll go out to it in the morning and it'll be in a pile on the side of the road |

My old C Reg 110 had 160,000 in it. Then a catastrophic oil leak which killed that engine. Not such a great example I fear for this thread .
There have been a few threads on mileage. None over the 300k mark although one of them on here is definitely over 250k miles and counting. On a lighter note of mileage, one of my ex's dads was a lorry driver and they had a P reg that had gone round the clock. That's 1 million miles! My last Land Rover (Disco 2 TD5) I purchased new by me in 2002, and I ran it for 10 years and 187,000 miles. It was still OK. Very few minor issues through it's life really - and nothing major. Only outstanding problem was a bit of transmission noise (a noisy clutch and an iffy transfer box). I did consider keeping it and was investigating a galvanised chassis, and a trip to Ashcroft to get the transmission quietened down...
However when LR announced the "end of the Defender", I bought one of the last 2.4 Pumas instead of fixing the Disco... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

194,000 on my 1989 110 V8
I don't think mileage is the issue, its the bits that rust out over time that kill Defenders, and that's more about time and prevention rather than miles. Mine's had a galv chassis, bulkhead, doors, suspension, a respray and is about to get a new interior, but the engine and transmission are still going strong. When they do die, bolting in a 3.9 and auto out of a dead disco will probably be the simplest and cheapest bit out of the whole lot! Same is probably true for other engines. Fully Restored 89 110 CSW V8 CLS 350 CDI for the sensible stuff |
