Hi everyone! Hope you all had a good christmas, and are looking forward to New Year!
For christmas, I was very kindly given a Warn Wireless Remote Control Unit for our Warn 9.5ti - See here for Winch and Remote: Winch: http://www.warn.com/truck/winches/src/9.5ti.shtml Remote: http://www.warn.com/truck/accessories/wireless_control.shtml Now, for any of you who haven't had the fortune to come across the Wireless Remote, there are only a few components within the Package, and there is NO additional wiring to add to the winch or to the Command box. This was a big plus for me! There is only one large wire in the package, and this fits onto the existing remote connection on the winch itself, keeping everything neat and tidy. There is also still the option to use the original wired remote if there is ever any need. This is the wire once connected to the winch : Click image to enlarge as you can see, it is just like the wired remote's connection. The only other component which needs mounting is the Command or "Receiver" box. Now, this can either be mounted with Bolts, or with the industrial strength Velcro that comes with the kit. I chose to use the Velcro, as I didn't really want to be drilling anymore holes in the engine bay. So, I checked the length of the wire, and chose a suitable location to mount the Command box. I ended up putting it on-top of the passenger footwell, in the engine bay side of the bulkhead. Now, most will know that as the engine has become bigger, there is less and less space free inside the engine bay of a Defender. There was no good mounting points on the inner wings, which is where I originally planned to place the Command box. This location on the bulkhead offers good mud protection, and a large and secure surface to mount upon. : Click image to enlarge Now, all I had to do was route the wires through the engine bay, which was not too tougher job. here are a selection of pics : Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge The picture quality isn't brilliant, it was bloody freezing though. The remote was then mounted within the cab, but this can be placed anywhere i'll get some pics tomorrow. Any questions, just ask, but it really is a brilliant system! Happy holidays! Where did you buy the remote from ?, I looked at them a few month ago but didn't think they came with the plug fitted and the cost of buying the plug seperately put me off. Richard

I disagree. I've always been taught that rope should be wound messily onto the drum and not in neat concentric rings like wire... Ross The Scotia Winch Challenge |

Yes Plasma all over the place Steel Neat layers
However When I winch I pull the full amount out 100 ft for best effect so when I winch in it is unneat however after the winch the drum is hot so I unspool check for damage have a cupper let it cool down then spool in neat. Its my way It works for me and I know each time I need to winch its in a good state to use |

Question - have you got the proper heat resistant synthetic rope or just standard - you need to be careful with out type of winches as they can melt through normal ropes. Mike

Hi Mike proper synthetic rope no issues not new to this winching lark
As stated before and Ray Respool just to be sure All I'd say is that winch sales should be banned unless you can demonstrate appropriate training seen some horrors |
