I've seen it and yet to see the rest. I saw the scene you mean with the Rangie. "The moral of the story is. Don't use your Range Rover to fetch your logs. Use a barrow instead"

yes I did as well
I think a bit of common sense and something underneath the wheels & he should have got out on low range wet grass and a slight incline can be a bit dodgy but I think they made a real dogs dinner of getting it out !! 2020 P300 HSE |

That's the scene I had in mind.
I thought that the RAC man opened the RR quite professionally (though I think it might have been better if C5 hadn't televised quite so clearly how to dot it), but the recovery up the hill I thought was terrifyingly inept. I appreciate that the RAC patrolman is neither trained nor equipped for that kind of recovery, and I am sure acted from the best of intentions (and I suspect he was acting up for the camera to an extent), but I have to question the training and guidance given to RAC patrol staff if they feel that that is an acceptable approach. Towing with a ratchet strap - what's that all about? Did you count the number of people who stepped over the tow "rope", including one person (owner's son?) when the vehciles were moving? I'm also not sure why the Defender didn't move the RR at all, although it looked as though the RR had no-one in it at the time. I wonder if that bit was stage-managed for the cameras. |

Yep saw the guy next to the tow rope. I think the only reason the Defender couldn't get it out was because it was on gravel and also I reckon the difflock wasn't on so just one wheel couldn't gain grip down to the gravel so they automatically thought it can't do it on it's own. Even though it was driver error IMHO No Guts, No Glory.

Glad there was more than me watched it then !! Even SWMBO said "what were they doing walking over the towrope ? ", and " the 90 would've pulled that out easy enough "
Another program that is going the usual way of "The world will end if it was'nt for these 'proffesional' people here to save us ", just like the Stobarts excuse of TV or IRT or Extreme diggers or whatever it was called..... I hate drama queens !!! Dave 98 'S' 90 300Tdi (sold) 07 D3 HSE (now sold) 1993 Scania 143 450 (should have kept that ! ) |

I saw it as well and did remark to the wife about using ratchet straps and stepping over a rope/strop while under tension and being attached.
I can't knock his customer service skills. The heavy recovery guys get respect for doing the job they do. Its on again tonight. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

I have to admit I watched it as well. I think its a bit Thomas the Tank engine but I watch it just to see the dodgy acts that happen such as the RR recovery you comment on. Last night for instance the chap in the RAC lorry pretending to be worrying about driving through 6 inchs of water when a car clearly drove the other way and that lorry would be good for much more. Shows realy that there is nothing better to watch on telly, no wonder we spend so much time on here. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,
I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

I loved the attitude of the crashed Defender driver, "A hammer and some paint and it will be fine" An engine to TDi for!

A couple of years back I had to rescue a RAC van and the car he was trying to recover off a muddy field.
