what are your thoughts on the tranfer box
just wondering what your thoughts are......?

I fairly sure if at your first service there was no evidence of the transfer box oil being topped up when it was required and you then went on to put in a warranty claim it would be rejected - presumably on the basis of the box not being suitably lubricated when required and damaged as a result of that.

therefore if I'd lost transfer box oil on 3 occassions due to LR should I not be asking for a new box due to damage caused or am I being a little sensative again?

I'd be interested to know what your thoughts are on this

thanks
Very Happy

if only things were that easy......

I must apologise to you all.....I genuinely feel guilty about all the doom and gloom I bestow on you all but I just want to get the damn thing sorted. I did think that if LR were to offer me a new def I'd say thanks but its ok let just sort this.......
not anymore !!

genuinely guys I'm at a loss but I can't afford to give it away and start again (I only wish I could cos I'd be taking a lesuirely drive down to dover and admiring the white cliffs then coming back on the train Laughing

again really sorry I'm sure you're all peezed off with me by now Sad

perhaps its me but surely not? agreed some of the warranty stuff people may turn a blind eye to but the likes of ecu's, inputs shafts etc I can't just ignore.

would really appreciate some help cos I believe LR aren't interested anymore and surely the contents of my transfer box shouldn't be on my drive after 2 years?

Sorry I lost the plot a bit Whistle

Have LR done anything positive to cure some problems? I got the impression there was some improvement...

p.s. Why would anyone be peed off? It's not abusive or spam and those who aren't interested can simply ignore Thumbs Up Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

I don't think anyone is peed off with you.

I'm worried that you are going to do your head in and make yourself ill. You have had so, so many problems, that it must be time to either throw in the towel or as suggested, turn up the radio and rag the ass out of it and if it breaks then call LR assist.

Clearly there are some issues, but "customer hears sound like wasp in rear quarter" probably won't result in a warranty inspection whereas "entrails of engine and transfer box deposited on M6" certainly would.

Just drive the thing like you stole it and it may well love you back Thumbs Up

things have improved (courtesy of myself) 3 bolts missing on heatshield etc.

all seemed really good and its sometimes still is - I suspect this is courtesy of the new transfer box input shaft but since then its peed oil out ..... went in for new seals but I suspect they never bothered to change them !

I gave them the benefit of the doubt when I saw all the oil droplets and assumed the lazy Censored hadn't bothered to clean up. so I cleaned up yesterday and after only a few miles today the oils back.

No sure weather to go back to local LR or try another muppet show (perhaps thats a little unfair)......
damn it a call to guy salmon coventry is on the cards.

I have to say ragging it to distruction does appeal and perhaps thats my next course of action but knowing there's a lack of oil I'll probably just end up with a knackered box when warranty ends so I'm keep to preserve it best I can.

I know this has been said before but (if you haven't already) use a different dealer!!!

I first kept going back to one "well-advertised" dealer in Munich who kept screwing up and didn't take me seriously (also in German). I felt belittled and it really was doing my head in (reason I joined this forum). The good people on here told me to change dealer - seems obvious now Rolling Eyes

The new dealer may be another 1/2 hour away and I have to use their "loaner" (no buses out there) but they are bloody brilliant! The difference is like night and day. I realise now how stupid I was before, like "going back to an abusive husband".

The the old dealer's incompetence shouldn't be allowed (a doctor would be struck off) but LR obviously don't take care of these things and that's life. That's why God made more dealers Thumbs Up Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

If I've suggested this once must have suggested it a dozen times now!

Caterham old chap you are going to worry yourself into an early grave, the more you look for problems the more you are sure to find. You say in are in Birmingham, I just don't understand why you insist on sticking with the same dealer, surely they have supplied enough evidence by now that you are on a losing ticket with them! Birmingham is a big place, take the damned vehicle somewhere recommended and ask them to sort the issues under warranty. Once you get it back just use the thing and don't bother checking every nook and cranny because as sure as eggs is eggs you're going to find something else that will cause you sleepless nights probably thinking how you're going to get a photo of it to post on here lol Wink Steve.

Steve,

you're most probably right........

however I'm now sure that although the local LR aren't perfect they're doing their best to sort things.

LR tech guy is going to be there today for the 3rd time before the transfer box is pulled out for the 3rd time as its leaking oil from the g'box extension but no one seems to know how - g'box must be porous / cracked?

so I suspect we're looking at a new g'box and possibly new t'box while they're at it !

ps. I think I've cracked the posting photo's business......only took 2 years. Very Happy

i have to agree with tig and dj - drive it until it goes BANG. At least then you can identify the problem !

tip 1 - fit a big stereo - it "solves" all known rattles
tip 2 - don't wash it - this "solves" many leaks as dirt takes the fluid away
tip 3 - park on gravel or mud as this hide "soiling" issues

= happy LR ownership

*should i ask Martin to make this post sticky?

Caterham

just found a massive leak exactly as yours

no minor leaks before or anything just in a couple of days from dry to dripping

i changed my breather pipes 2 weeks ago and guess what, one was blocked, well,... Rolling Eyes i connected rear axle with gearbox i found out Confused Embarassed Embarassed

drove a couple of miles and not a drip anymore

conclusions
1. festo air couplings are really airtight and pressure resistant
2. check your breeder pipe first when you have a leaking transfer box

worth mentioning i thought

now i go clean my driveway Confused

thanks tatra....

it would appear the oil in my case is from the gearbox.......they've got a new one on order and will hopefully be fitted before the end of the next week.

......never thought I could hate a FFRR so much - and even after all the trouble I've had can't wait to get mine back.
