Check your Box
The air filter box is not sealed to the air intake pipe that runs from the intake point on the inner wing to the air box. See pictures. So your RAI is a waste of time. I will post more pictures and hopefully a cure later this weekend. Also there does not appear to be a water outlet device from the air box. I have just fitted a TJM Airtec (Australia) snorkel to my 07 Defender. In the install they get you to remove the intake tube and seal both ends with silicone. There appears to be a water drain point at the intake tube near the guard and there is a hole in the bottom of the air cleaner that I thought was also a drain point. I was not able to completely remove the air cleaner assy, how did you do it?

Apparently there is a water outlet at the bottom of the airbox but this needs to be sorted when fitting the RAI. Last edited by Japseroony on 27th Apr 2009 10:35am. Edited 1 time in total |

When we got into checking out the air intake system we found that the RAI was not completely sealed to the wing, as the wing was deformed. Click image to enlarge The area in the pink shows that the RAI was not sealed to the wing whereas the area in the yellow shows a clean area indicating that it was sealed. So a couple of strips of draft excluder fixed this. The next unsealed joint was where the ducting that is sealed to the inner wing receives the ducting that runs to the air filter box. Click image to enlarge This was sealed internally using a water proof bandage. Click image to enlarge The next joint was the ducting that enters the air filter box, this was sealed externally using a waterproof bandage. I made the water proof bandages using a system I use for fixing Butyl liners for water storage tanks. You can buy similar garden pond repair kits from most garden centres. |

Whenever i have fitted snorkels I have always used and be taught to use some bonding such as an industrial sealant.
Any reason why this would not be the case? Mike |

Its interesting to read this post as recently I have noticed that the air intake noise has become more pronounced, not sure why but seems to be loudest at around 1900rpms
