265 tyres
After the copious amounts of advice and opinion on this site I have decided to go for a set of Cooper Discoverer S/T MAXX tyres... Because I want something with more grip and kick than the GG TRs (235/85/16) I currently have and I want my Land Rover to look less like it belongs to a hairdresser.


Could do with some advice on the size... Want to go for 265's but worried they will be too wide for the rig? I suffer enough from the poor steering lock capability at the moment. I also don't really want to have to fit spacers or wheel arch flare extensions (even if they look quite good), but if the spacers make a massive difference to the steering I may consider it. Can't see a set of ST Maxx tryes for sale in the 255/85 size which would be perfect Rolling Eyes . Any advice please?

Had my 265 Maxx's fitted Friday. Look fantastic, feel grippy and no issues with full lock.
No spacers needed but might add some anyway for that Tonka look.

265's are fine and they make it look much tougher...no cookie cutter look. You will notice a bit of a difference in speed per revs as well as turning radius, like it is any good anyway. 2008 Defender 110 60 year Edition (sold unfortunately)

I've got 265's on mine with 30mm spacers. It's more manoeuvrable than my wifes' old DII Thumbs Up Darren

You'll also need three big fat washers for spacers on the spare wheel carrier to stop the fatter tyre fouling the rear wiper.

Thanks, hadn't considered that. Will make sure I have them ready. Cool

Norm, the KM2's are just too much for all terrain tyres. I like the opinions everybody seems to have of all the BFGs tyres, but the Coopers do it for me by ticking all the right boxes.

May go for some 30mm spacers now as the turning circle is battleship-like already with only 235's. Can anybody tell me how much 265's with 30mm spacers stick out from the standard wheel arches? May have to get those flares after all!

Here she is with 265 BFG KO's

NO change in turning circle at all. They don't foul anything so no need to adjust the lock stops.
No protrusion from wheel arch extensions.
Marginal increase in noise, but hardly an issue in a Deafener!

I have 265/75 ST maxx on mine, fitted on +8 offset modular rims. No spacers (dont wish to use them), and turning circle is fine - not as good as on my old alloys and 225s but still within quite acceptable parameters!. The tyres just fit under the wheel arches and do look good, but I have noticed I get more splatter down the sides of the motor - both mud and puddles! Oh well, it gives it more "character" for it to a bit muddy and it means I do tend to wash it more, which is probably a good thing in the end!

265's are fine without spacers, if you want more of a turning circle just adjust the steering lock stop bolts.

Nice. Seen a Mitsu truck with 265/75s recently. The General AT2s look effective as well. Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

one thing to note is that its not the tyres which may/may not require spacers, its the wheels.

on a zero offset 7" modular you can fit upto 285 tyres, (although id recommend an 8" wheel). if you have zero offset you wont be needing any spacers or lock stop adjustment and neither will it foul the arches on full articulation etc.
