The Hannibal 2.4m awning is a 'self supporting' side awning and a quick look at prices show them at about £588.
Current price on a Foxwing which gives 10m2 of shade (compared to 5 metres2 of Hannibal) is £585. Foxwing is not self supporting but correctly guyed down will withstand 55mph winds. OK I could be accused of being biased but I personally would question stability of any self supporting awnings in windy condition. The Foxwing is made by Oztent and Rhinorack of Australia. Rhinorack has brought out their Sunseeker 2 awning which is not self supporting, has 5m2 of shade. Price will be less then £300. Possible to zip extension onto the Sunseeker just like the Foxwing and also Tagalong tents etc. We have some on their way to us. Details of Sunseeker HERE Please note the Hannibal is designed to fit onto their rack. Foxwing/Sunseeker onto Rhino Rack Bars, however various fitting kits are available for different racks. We mount our Foxwing onto our Patriot Rack OK. Brendan |

I looked at the foxwing but not really any good for me as my tent comes over the back with the walls etc.

IMHO you really cannot beat the wind out Fiammi awnings for speed, convenience and quality. OK, they look a bit more like they belong on a white camper van rather than a hard core expedition truck but I have now made 5 overland trips with a group where one truck has one fitted and it is always the one we use most as it is just so stable and convenient. Persoanlly I like the Foxwing (though many others I talk too don't) and if I had the spare cash I would take a punt on one solely because I live out of the back of my truck (rather than in a roof tant) so the extra cover for the rear door is a proper plus. If I had a rood tent though I would only be looking at a Fiammi.

Yes I thought of the fiammi but the price is getting close to the hannibal and Eezi awn, what I would really like is a secondhand one for a couple of hundred quid but that looks less and less likely.
I also like the fact that the Hannibal and Eezi awn can have sides. |

Have you though about turning your roof tent through 90 degrees and using a fox wing?
This is my set up and it works well for us. The tent lines up nicely with the drivers door so you can still gain access to the vehicle from the tent and the foxwing covers the back where I do all the cooking. Mine is a double cab so when it rains I just throw the canvas flap on top of the foxwing and the access area stays relatively dry. James |

I have a Foxwing, currently we have 2 sides for it and soon to buy another, attached to the Oztent, it will all work well.
Here's a cheaper option I used for years... A £10 tarpaulin and some awning poles from eBay... Brilliant. You can see why the missus wanted a caravan, cooking in the mud and rain on a New Years Eve. |
