I don't know too much about winches, but as you are fitting a front towball, how about one of the removable ones mounted on a tray?
That way you could use front or rear (or swap between vehicles) as long as you have an Anderson connector each end, which is always useful for jump leads. So no worries about uprated springs as most of time It'll be in the back. David Bowyer has a couple of tray options which will fit quite a few different power winches, may even be able to fit a Warn on one as well. Certainly worth considering, had a goos chat at a show about them, seems like a nice chap as well. I would say yes to the front springs as need to take into account for the extra weight on the front, the best people i would deal with is Devon 4x4 as they would sell you the right springs forthe weight

Thought about the tray mounted ones. Would be handy as when you get stuck you often could do with a rear winch! I ve looked at them on the warn website and the picture of the bloke lifting one onto the back of his truck made me think it could be a bit heavy to be lifting on and off. I couldn't keep in the back of the landy as this is full most of the time and I have a trailer on a lot of the time, so couldn't stay on the back. The ease of theft was an issue too.

I would not fit a winch without heavier rated springs. Iron Man are ideal, not to mention cheap. Goodwinch TDS Goldfish has never let me down and has been used a LOT. I have a goodwinch bumper specially for puma aircon models I could sell to you for 250 and is brand new.

I've got a Superwinch Talon 9.5 with synthetic rope and TF tubular bumper on my DC. Both items are ****** heavy. Front end must have dropped all of one cm, probably more like .5cm.
Wait until you have fitted everything before upgrading the springs, I doubt you will need to upgrade. If you do I have a pair of 1" lift front springs for a 110 that I have never needed to fit. This is how it looks, bog standard springs. You won't need to change the front springs.
The only item I would add is a heavy duty battery switch in the winch cable that you can easily isolate |

I'd also say that you should be okay on standard springs unless they are already tired and needing replaced.
To save a few pounds go with a plasma rope and alloy / stainless fairlead I've a T-Max winch on with Mantec bumper. Some pics in my gallery - I recently changed to plasma - what a difference - but it will depend on what you use it for - Click image to enlarge[/img] Defender 110 County SW Disco 3 HSE Freelander 2 HSE - SOLD going back to a car www.lothian4x4response.org |

are you using it for vehicle recovery or for winching things onto a trailer?
if the latter a Warn 9.5 is overkill and i would trailer mount it powered from anderson sockets of the tow vehicle if you want a demountable system i still have a Cl2(?) receiver hithc cradle and front def fitment (possibly rear too ) for sale. my recommendation would be a new TDS at the £500 ish mark over a Warn for greenlane/occassional recovery use. if your into heavy winch use then a Warn could be justified. But generally they are expensive, no more reliable than any thing else, have expensive parts and does the 9.5 not have a cone brake in the drum? i am also thinking about getting a winch. just to chuck another question in the mix.... whats the max power winch you could run.... i have a 130 and tow trailer loads of fencing into feilds, so if i get stuck i could be winching min 3.5ton. im thinking a superwinch talon 18000lb (8ton) (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120915766659?ssP...1423.l2649) or is that just going to rip the front bumper off!!!!!

Alternatively use a snatch block to effectively halve the load on the winch (although halve the speed as well) and get a smaller 8 / 9000lb version |
