I've just come back from the Paderborn area last week. Was visiting friends in Holzminden and Brilon. Some huge amounts of snow and they just carried on as usual. The drive back through the rest of Europe was fun. It snowed from just before the German border to Calais. Snow laying in all 3 lanes of the motorway. That was fun driving but the D3 coped well 110 D250 SE HT

Not much more you could fit on that load!!!
I was based in Paderborne for about 6 years. Just out side the town in Barker barracks, good times being a young soldier in the middle of Europe. Though in fairness I don't remember a lot of it once I found the 2ltr steins!! How long did it take to get there? We used to hire cars and with 5 squaddies thinking we were Nigel Mansel and indistructable it would still be a 8-10hr journey to S. Wales. Have fun out there and I'd recommend doing more sober exploration than I managed. Strong people are harder to kill and generally more useful! |

Never managed to get to Paderborn myself. My Regt moved there a few yrs after I left. But like you I spent most of my 4 1/2 yrs there in a drunken stupor. Shame as I had Europe at my feet. Looking back I now see that I wasted so much time and money. But it was good fun at the time. 110 D250 SE HT

Didn't we all do that when posted out there? I did to tours, great fun, and both with a Royals Signal regiment that came under direct control of NATO. Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond..... |
