On the face of it, as you are not their customer, i.e. it wasn't you that asked or paid for all of that kit to be fitted, I can see why they may not feel obliged to help. If you were the original customer then the story may be different. Darren

The bit that gets me is they were paid to fit them originally and should have fitted them correctly - so why would they not be responsible ![]() Actually had the DP screaming down the phone at me and when I said I would probably never darken Ripoff LR's doors again he said he did not need customers like me and if any of his staff were seen to be doing anything for me he would discipline them ![]() "UNDERSTEER" ----is when you hit the fence with the front of the car. I'm pretty sure that anything fitted by Landrover at the time of sale is covered under the warranty (that's what I was told anyway by my dealer). So it might be worth checking that - perhaps via another dealer!

I've not had any dealings with Ripon Land Rover for a while other than the odd trip to the spares department. Never had any problems with them in the past though, including warranty claims and so on. If you want to get it sorted yourself then Maddison 4x4 are just down the road from Ripon Land Rover - a LOT cheaper too. The paint shop Maddison 4x4 use did an excellent job on my P38 when a tree decided to take out the rear quarter.
They might be able to help out with pointing you in the right direction for the warranty as they work with some of the local dealerships although that's probably going to be a difficult one to get sorted under warranty regardless of where you go. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

This raises a few questions and some of them may not be so easy to answer.
What is the OFFICIAL Land Rover method of wiring these spot lights? Did Ripon LR fit them to the official method or not? Did the original customer ask for the wiring to be done that way? If the original customer did then Ripon LR has fulfilled their customer instructions and the fact that you no longer have the spot lights is irrelevant. You need to get hold of the official instructions at the original purchase of the vehicle that might throw some light on the situation. Now will LR Customer Service help to get a good look at the original purchase order?? Does LR warranty extend to accessories on second hand vehicles? Brendan |

I have used Ripon LR several times and must say they have been one of the most accommodating dealerships I have come across.... They also had the best workmanship that I have had from a dealer.
Not to be funny but you will struggle to get £10,000 worth of extras unless you are getting SVX seats and winch pack!!
Brendan has it spot on. Get the original owner to show you the build sheet (sales specification) or the receipt for fitting all the accessories. Also- Land Rover don't offer roof mounted spot lights as part of their package so it would have been at the customers request (and therefore no warranty). Unfortunately the dealership are right and by carrying out the work they will not be able to claim warranty so will put them out of pocket. Glyn ![]() ![]() |

Ripon fitted accessories for original owner.
You buy it 2nd hand not from Ripon and you don't like the way it's been fitted. Can't see what comeback on Ripon you have.? Your not the original owner, you didn't instruct or pay for the fitting you didn't buy the car from them? |

I've always believed that genuine LR accessories ftted by a dealer att the time of 1st purchase meant they were covered by a full 3 year warranty.
You would need to know that all the affected parts were genuine & fitted as part of the original deal. Copies of the original sales paperwork would help here. Assuming you went to the dealer with a reasonable attitude, how did the situation end up with the DP making the comments you reported? Where they dismissive from the beginning or offer any assistance? What about "a local company that had taken it in second hand" - didn't they sell it with any form of warranty? Did they impy all the work was covered under a LR warranty? |

I think that's the critical question. And to call a firm "ripoff" in light of you just not being happy is ridiculous, insulting and possibly defamatory. I've bought several vehicles from them and found them to be the best price and in fact, the best service of any dealer I've ever used, so let's have a bit of balance eh? As Brendan says, you need to find out if the items were installed correctly though I suspect it's too late for that if you have had what appears to be a full-on row with the DP. |

I have the original sales docs that were provided by Ripoff LR to me just after I bought her, that clearly shows they fitted everything from new including charging for the conduit, fitting etc etc
![]() Prior to my taking the roof rack off the vehicle was in for some replacement parts under warranty and they rectified something they fitted incorrectly at the same time - when fitting the ladder they had put the work light bracket underneath it causing the ladder to bend. They took it all off, made a small incert, pwoder coated it and then put it back correctly not bending the ladder - so why do that when they wont pint the roof ![]() Went through the process of asking the service guys, then the service mgr then the DP's side kick and eventually the DP. DP was agressive from the start and would not even talk to me - now I am a reasonable bloke but he was downright rude and offencive with no reason. I was only asking him to consider my position and explain why they were no prepared to help ![]() ![]() "UNDERSTEER" ----is when you hit the fence with the front of the car. As I mentioned above..... Spot lights on the roof rack of a Defender are not a LR optional extra or 'genuine accessory'. Yes they can if asked supply 2x aux lighting kits and then fit them to the roof rack- but this is then an agreement between Ripon LR and the original owner- therefore the fitting aspect will not be covered by warranty (even thought the parts will).

I had my first and only dealings with Ripon Land Rover some years back.
Looking to purchase 2nd hand 90 300tdi, inspected vehicle and noted some minor and major problems which included leaking and pitted swivels, all of which they agreed would be fixed for the purchase price, I asked the salesman to write down the total price inc V.A.T.. I went back two weeks later to collect it only to find that the original salesman had been given the day off, and the Sales Manager had taken over the sale no problems with this I thought until he presented my with the bill for all the repairs they had done most of which would have had to be done for a M.O.T. plus he had increased the price of the vehicle by £1000.00 and put V.A.T. on top. I showed him the price I had been quoted as being the total I would be charged which was written on a comp slip, he disputed that the signature was that of the original salesman and accused me of stealing the slip on my first visit and writing the price on it and forging the salesman's signature. He told me in front of staff and other customers that if I didn't pay his price and pay for the repairs he would call the police and have me arrested for theft of the comp slip and attempted fraud. Twenty minutes went by with me standing outside waiting for the Police when the Sales Manager came to the door and screamed through the glass that I was trespassing and should get off the property, when I asked about the Police he screamed that he couldn't be bothered with them. I later found out that he had rang the original salesman who confirmed the price I had was correct and the repairs were to be done by Ripon Land Rover within that price. I have not been back since and never will. |
