The DVLA are very helpful. Look them up the web and give them a ring. There'll be a small fee no doubt, have your debit card to hand. They'll retain the plate for you to put on another car and give your car an age relevant plate (prob it's original plate in fact). Easy process.

HI Chalky
If you pop along to your local DVLA office with your vehicle registration doc, MOT (if it needs one), tax disc and a fist full of money. then fill out a V317 form they'll process it for you. You should really have done this before you sold it though....legally the garage owns the plate now. DVLA reckon it takes about 7 days but my retention certificate turned up along with the certificate for the plate to put back on the old car in about 4 days. if its a reasonable dealer tho they should do all this for you good luck |

Cheers Guys,
I,m working away at the Mo and dont have either the vehicle or the paperwork at hand. I will get in touch with the DVLA Tomorrow though and hopefully get this sorted. I still have the vehicle at the Moment however an impending trade in with a Main Dealer is looming on a DISCO 3 XS, i,m selling the plate so i dont think ill transfer it onto the new veh but wish to retain it as it cost me about £500. Cheers. DEFENDER XS CSW 08 TONGA GREEN |

If you are p/exing the it with a dealer, then why not get the dealer to do it for you? I generally do, and you could try to get in as a part of the deal.
