WORTH CHECKING

If your Puma is still under warrantee its worth checking the window edges on the nearside under the rubber to ensure there isn't a hole present. I know there have been posts talking about water on the nearside floor pan after a rainstorm before, but on closer inspection it is a poor weld joint that has allowed the water in and the Warranty people for Landrover say its not their problem even though there is a 3 year cover on body parts.
Lastly, hope I am not alone in this.

We developed the bonnet jumping up suddenly as HGV's drove past, which meant it was only retained by the bonnet catch. Fault.....apparently common again I am told by my dealership, the centre post on the bonnet with the spring around is a screw in post, it has worn the thread over time and now misaligned, consequently, unless you keep screwing it in to a part of the thread that hasn't been used before it won't allign and close and hold down. It apparently needs welding but the repair workshop think it is too close to paintwork to achieve a satisfactory job and say a new painted bonnet should be bought, paid for by the warrantee...........nope!......after all the messing about I did in making sure noone steals it as well grrrrrrrrrrr
Again they say it is not covered by the warrantee.
Still argueing with them and my dealership is defending me, and agrees totally it is bodywork.

If these two things aren't bodywork I give in............not renewing my warrantee thats for sure. Its not worth the paper and the £600 its written on!!
Will keep you posted, since being bought out by the Indian company, they have really knuckled down against claims I'm told.
This is going to be a good fight me thinks, especially as they kicked and screamed last time over two fuel rail failures one after the other, which both had to be replaced month apart!!!!

cheers for your info

i just had the compression gasket between the windscreen and bulkhead spray painted under warranty (nearside location, adjacent to the internal 3 bolt windscreen bracket) due to corrossion being present.

(hope the seats are ok)

No probs mate. Hope you are well as you must be seeing the snow today in bulk where you are.

Was scheduled to be at Hereford this morning but M4 and the M5 partially blocked, so giving it a miss, as they have given me a crappy Freelander for a week whilst they argue the next move on the Defender, and frankly can't be arsed.
Worst L/R I have ever had, and I've had a few, and its only 2 years old..........but I love them

Yes the seats are great thanks, if they could be getting some use

i think hereford is getting it a lot worse than us (driveable in 2wd with care), but you are right to scratch your trip.

be grateful for a freelander - i got a pug 106 for 3 days

drive it till it rots through and then do a galv rebuild

mine is in for a windscreen leak as well. had to remove the windscreen frame and re-seal everything. mind you, the service guy also said they had 3 more to do as well so we are not the only ones.

still love em to bits and sod other makes. NOTHING drives like a Land Rover Defender or not as the current case me be

someone i know in the Rifles would probably argue that point

i gather there is quite a bit of friendly rivalry between regiments.

in my opinion you are all 'the best'

he's in intell but if you met him you would never have guessed; he's just left for 2nd tour of ghan

Lots of good lads from the Rifles come west and do really well as their fitness levels are good anyway, look at the speed they march at ...................140 paces per minute, sod that for a game of..............

Getting back to the wagon, they admitted to me last night, (this is Customer Care who I was advised to put some pressure on by my dealer independently) as they weren't getting any answers quickly...........they admitted quietly that there were a lot of people with the same issues.
Bodywork badly welded, Fuel rails not doing what they said on the box etc. Some major some minor. The issue is a two year old L/R shouldn't be having all the dramas we are currently having, as they are not a cheap option of a 4WD out there.
He then said they are having real problems with motoring organisations alleging that Land Rover have the worst breakdown record at the moment and theft issues.
Can't remember seeing any broken down on the side of the road at all! I then launched into him about the theft issues, bonnet wagon etc, and said if they had got it right first time round it wouldn't be on anybody's list to steal it or bits off it

by then I was fuming, looking out the window at a crappy Freelander substitiute

Still got the Freelander from the Dealership. In the past 3 weeks I have been offered 75% of the work under warrantee turned it down waited a week and now they are doing the work that should have been done properly on production FREE...............no brainer.
For those of you that might have a bonnet catch issue, get it sorted quick as to replace and paint a new bonnet is over £2K.
Mine started as stated previously with the stake not making connection with the front panel socket, due to the stake being cross threaded on manufacture and finally giving up the ghost, and the bonnet only being held on by the catch.They say it is impossible to weld a new stake in position that close to the bonnet paint. Visavee the battle to get a new bonnet.
New Indian bosses who I was told have saved Billions already at Land Rover Jaguar, is that trying to con good honest L/R customers out of their rights!!?? My warrantee isn't worth the paper its written on unless your engine and gearbopx packup.........everything else is a battle

I had my bonnet replaced under warranty. Exactly same reason as yours - wouldn't close and latch couldn't extend any further.

The join between the main horizontal part of the bulkhead running across under the windscreen and the shaped peices at the end (where the screen bottom corners are) is a notorious spot for leaks. The quality of fit seems to be getting worse (perhaps as the tooling is wearing) and even if the weld isn't bad enough to be holed, the misalignment is often bad enough to permit water ingress.

Couple this to the design and material of the more recent windscreen (and greatly inferior) sealing rubber, which is less flexible and has fewer sealing elements, and it is unfortunately far more likely that this area will leak on a recent vehicle than an older one.

Usually a healthy dose of an appropriate windscreen sealant into the area will fix the problem, however.
