I'm just ordering 265's and I understand the extra width on the spare will foul the movement of the rear wiper. I know people use spacers to solve this problem. Are these homemade or commercially available?

I have the expedition equipment carrier fitted and it has no problem with fitting 265/75/16 tyres on both boost and modular rims. The only thing that you have to do is adjust the spacer nuts by about 15mm. Incidentally the standard defender rear door carrier fits 265s absolutely find too. |

I just use 3 LR steel nuts as spacers and this works fine.

You will smash your tail light lense if 265's are on a taildoor standard setup. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

265 BFG on boost wheel, fitted to standard wheel carrier did not break my rear lights but did stop my rear wiper working, enough to blow the fuse on the journey home after collecting it

So should I buy a deeper carrier? Swing mount carrier? There are plenty of people running 265's what are they all doing?

I use a swing away carrier. An alloy with a 265 BFG weighs a far bit, and that's not good long term if you off road. If you stay on the black stuff don't think it will be so much of an issue. Before the swing carrier I used spacers, think they were karting wheel ones that I had knocking about.

Ive got a 265 kumho on a boost on the door of my 90.
Didnt smash the rear light - no where near! ![]() But dd hit the windscreen wiper ![]() Went to the farm workshop, put two stainless washers on each bolt, job done. Wiper doesn't hit, light isnt smashed. ![]() Ill stick some in an envelope if you like we got a million of them! ![]() Doug ![]() |

You should have spacer nuts as standard on your rear wheel carrier. Just adjust them out so the new tyre misses the wash wiper.
I ran the original rear wheel carrier for a short while with a 265 BFG before installing a separate wheel carrier. 2007 TD5 90 Hard Top |

I agree with above.
I have 265s on Boosts. I adjusted the standard carrier to provide clearance for wiper...( absolute minimum) The wiper is fine. With a new tyre on the wheel it just touches the back panel with the door pushed right back. No damage, no lights broken and no cost....well except for additional chain and lock to secure wheel! I do intend to shorten my door stay....as realise with wear there is a risk of marking the back panel. Clemmo Make today a little better than yesterday but not so good as tomorrow.... Thanks for the replies and advice. It seems all should be okay with clearance with either adjusting the OEM carrier or adding a spacer. Cheers folks. |
