Nice truck mate!
I would love to have a 110 like that! Consider changing to Disco Ratios if you get the tune from Gary and a bit of noise killer Then you won't need/want to change to a Puma! |

Smart I've just being looking through Autotrader at TD5's....what a load of rubbish for the money. A good one is definitely keeping hold of especially when they just don't seem to go down in value

I like that abomb1969, looks immaculate for the year! Mine isnt actually a proper XS and is 2001 so getting on abit now, although there is no rust as it has been wax oiled from new and has a genuine 40K on clock, she was supplied with electric windows, air con, TC, ABS, remote locking etc. Pretty much has everything apart from the leather! I swapped the original 4 folding side steps for the XS bars and swapped the alloys for the Boost ones. People often think its alot newer than it is until they see the reg!
How do they drive with the Transfer box ratio change? |

I know its nice to see the prices are holding, i suppose all the TD5's have taken that initial depreciation now and are at the stage where the nice ones are hanging onto their prices, i agree i have no intention of selling mine.
I would like to hear any views on how an overdrive or transfer gear ratio change would affect mine |

Hi.
I've got a 2001 TD5, bought 4 years ago. I had the t/box overhauled with the Disco2 ratios which made it much quieter and no real problems in terms of driveability on the standard engine ....... until I put the caravan on the back. It was then I went to see Gary at Alive Tuning and went for a stage 2 tune. Much better, cruises comfortably at 60 with the caravan, 70 without, better mpg too. Ross. |

welcome!
TD5s rule, had mine two years and it would seem that it is worth approx 2 grand more than i paid for it! anyways, not gonna sell it cos i love it, way more than i expected to ,previous motor was a A6 Audi, which was nice but did not have the appeal, character, fun etc of a 90 csw |

Don't know about the td5, but having a disco transfer box put in my 200tdi (conversion) 1989 90 has transformed it, much quieter on the faster roads, will easily cruise at 65-70 on the sat nav, where it was struggling to cruise at 65 before and engine was howling along. Better mpg as well.
Downside is you loose some of the 'lowness' ( not sure if that sounds right) of the lower gears so no more pulling away in 2nd, that would probably affect towing ability, but as previously mentioned you can tune a td5 so should be able to compensate for that. Doesn't make any noticable difference in everyday use of lower gears, also I believe it won't affect the low box so off road not affected. Best money I spent on the 90 I think, made it a far more comfortable vehicle which is why I'm keeping that one going as well as the 110. Nice looking td5's shown here, I miss the air vents on the new 110 but love the rest of it, but for different reasons to the 90 DJ 1989 200tdi 90 csw 2011 110 usw Orkney grey Buy British 🇬🇧 Defender Clothing Designs available at http://www.rangesports.com/acatalog/Defender-Stuff.html |

I had the ashcroft gears installed on my 2003 td5 110, makes for a much quieter drive and I would say a must if you do lots of motorway driving. The economy must have been better but not that noticable. I did not opt for a re-map but when I was towing a SII on a trailer, starting on a hill I needed low ratio to get started, normal day-to-day stuff was fine. the low box is not affected by the mod. there are 2 alternatives 1. an overdirve box, these are still expensive but can be swapped from truck to truck and the resale values are good too. 2. a 2007 > defender with 6 speeds you pay your money .... |
