Using chemicals/ absorbants, will get very expensive. I would recommend A) fit some louvered vents, B) forced ventilation such as a "flettner"-type vent, and C) some sort of insulation/lining to the container to prevent the formation of the condensation.

Depends what you want to spend, cheapest would probably be some polystyrene sheet, better would be cellotex/kingspan, but it's very expensive. There is some sort of flocking stuff that is used on steel skinned agricultural and industrial buildings for exactly this purpose, I cannot recall its name though. Bear in mind, if you fit a "Flettner" you'll need some way to let air in at the bottom, I guess the louvered vents could go low, and Flettner on the roof.

there are some good reasonably priced Solar Powered Vents available that can improve things a lot and cost nowt to run DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,
I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy Last edited by LR90XS2011 on 10th Jan 2013 9:33pm. Edited 1 time in total |

I also use a 20ft container for storage. The roof had rusted through in places meaning that whenever it rained water collected in the channel sections on the roof and then leaked into the container ruining a lot of stuff stored there. The walls also ran with condensation. I used box profile roofing sheets screwed to a wooden frame which is bolted through the roof to cure the leaks and make it watertight. There is an air gap as a result and I no longer have any condensation issues. Costs of roof sheets £120. Cheap fix considering I had looked at buying a container which would have been a round £600-£800 plus the cost of delivery to the site. This one I got for free plus no rent for having it on site. I just have to do the odd repair to the land owners Defender 50th anniversary. Not a bad deal!

I have the same problem with one i use, its mostly oncold days and as the cabin warms up it condencates. i put a peice of ply wood sat accross the roof at one end and it helped insulate the outside of the cabin roof from the cold a little and cut the condensation downinside quitea lot.
Im now going to try cover all the outside of the roof with ply/stirling board to see if it helps some more. I have also piped in some warm air from my workshop heater which helps dry it out over the day when it is wet. though on a morning i have many drips on the floor for a few hrs Pete |

I supply a local company that has close to a thousand containers rented out for storage with 40mm celotex boards and 40x40 right angle steel 0.7mm . The boards are only about a tenner each so not expensive, the boards are held against the ceiling on the inside by the angle flashings, he also fits the boards to the rear wall on the inside and the two doors.
This has stopped all condensation problems. |
