I mounted one of these RAIs with rivnuts. Suppose you could try using nuts behind the panel but you only need to insert 2 rivnuts - make your own tool?

No sweat - rivnuts are cheap off eBay and if you cock up they are easy to drill out and try again without any further damage - believe me, I know
Just remember - "measure twice, drill once" p.s. Many on here would also make the seal airtight with Sikaflex. I used butyl tape but I'm... Tip - put masking tape along the seam between the inner and outer wings when drilling the holes in the windscreen surround, as bits of swarf can get in the gap, and can be near impossible to get out again. Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

Thick enough to take the self tappers that hold the bracket but do remove the interior screen trim [2 x self tapping screws] and pull the wiring that runs up under the trim out of the way before you drill the holes for the RAI support. I drilled a smaller hole and used a screw thread cutting tool to tap the holes.

Me too (mine was s/hand without bolts). I also coated the threads with Duralac to prevent bimetallic corrosion and seated the bracket with butyl to make it all watertight @Jensen - I'm no wader but (at least in Pumas) there is a hole at the bottom of the airfilter box and one under the fresh air intake duct... Agree that's a good idea but if you have access to the rear, then why not fit ordinary bolts and nuts rather than rather ugly self tappers? |
