Nokian Rotiiva AT 235/85 R16 120/116R listed on mytyres.co.uk http://www.mytyres.co.uk/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?...p;dsco=110 appear to have a snowflake symbol even though they are listed as a summer tyre?
and GT Radial Maxmiler WT 1000 235/85 R16 120/116 Q listed on Oponeo http://www.oponeo.co.uk/tyre-details/gt-ra...-120-116-q also appear to be a winter tyre, dont know if they have a snowflake symbol or just M+S. PS I have no views on these and just stumled across them when looking for tyre options for my 110. 2023 110 P400e |

These Nokian winter tires are recommended/offered by Land Rover Switzerland as winter tires for the Defender. I have those for 4 years now on black modulars and can confirm they are very good, also suitable for light off-roading.
http://www.nokiantires.com/tyre?id=11879&group=2 You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Thanks for the quick replies!
The PDF list appeared to cover M+S rated tyres rather than those with the mountain/snowflake symbol. In my experience, these are usually far worse in real winter conditions. Are the BFG AT's mountain/snowflake rated? I am sure the ones I looked at just had the M+S mark. The Nokian tyres mentioned seem to be a summer tyre and are probably the wrong rubber compound (to hard) for cold, winter conditions. Nokian do not currently sell a real all terrain winter tyre, their most suitable for the Defender appears to be their LT range (light truck). Ideally, I'd like a winter tyre that would also work reasonably well off road, in fields etc. Thanks again for your help! |

Just checked the Nokian site and the rotiva AT is an all weather tyre listed for severe winters
http://www.nokiantires.com/tyre?id=132374&...%20Rotiiva AT snippets "Extremely stable tire with high performance on and off the road Aggressive tread pattern guarantees exceptional handling Sturdy cut-resistant tread surface Severe Service Emblem or Mountain Snowflake Symbol designation rated for use in severe winter conditions The aggressive tread pattern of the new product, and especially its wide, polished grooves maximize grip and handling in rapidly changing summer conditions. Thanks to a unique tread pattern, the tire also cleans easily and runs effortlessly in winter conditions." And its an AT too... not sure you'll find any MT tyres with a snowflake rating. 2023 110 P400e |

Winter Tyres are in Norway and Sweden defined as: ”Tyres specially design for winter use AND marked M+S, M.S., M&S, M-S, MS or 'Mud and Snow”. The list below is a list of tyres witch by the tyre producers are defined as specially designed for winter use. This is in line with the demands from the Norwegian and Swedish authorities. The list is based on information from the tyre importer and STRO have no responsibility for the accuracy of the information. |

Depends on what you want
Nokians are highly regarded as WINTER tyres way way way up there BFG ALthough they are mountain snowflake rated they are not as soft nor have as many sipes so they are a good al round tyre but when the going gets tricky the Nokians will have the edge Note these tyres are Winter / Cold weather tyres not true snow tyres and thats a whole new discussion best left to the guys who have snow rather than our cold weather |
