Auxillary headlights question.
1. Can you fit auxillary headlights on the front that can be used with dipped and / or just main beam, legally?
2. If so any suggestions for a light that doesn't cost the earth and which is slimline so that it doesn't protrude beyond the bumper?
Thanks Thumbs Up LANDYWATCH

1 - Yes on main beam no probs. Only when you'll need it really.

2 - Lightforce are excellent but I have Roo's which are pretty much identical and are a bit cheaper. However Lightforce do the bigger 240's too but you won't wan them. If you want too look for 100w Roo lite's they're available on Paddocks. (Should be) KEEP CALM AND Drill ON

Is it true, that "Fog Lights" come on with Dip, and "Driving Lights" come on with full beam.

Fogs cannot be legally used unless visibility is less than 100m, and then you're supposed to use fogs with sidelights (to prevent glare).

Is there a way of beefing-up dip beam, other than a standard headlight upgrade (which is what I have done, philips extrem in the std headlights)....? Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Front fogs really only work with side lights to avoid light bounce

And as for Rear fogs worst invention ever Banging Head

There was a time when HGV's (then) did not use them now they are nearly as bad as Car drivers 3663 & Stobs Particularly Censored

Exactly MartinK. Flood light rather than Spot that can be used on dark roads without dazzling oncoming drivers. Yes, you could use main beam but could be continually switching between both. Dipped beam is fine in town and lit roads, but on unlit roads it would be nice to have additional lights to use on dipped beam, similarly setup i.e.: dipped to Nearside Whistle LANDYWATCH

You can use front fogs legally together with either parking (side) lights or with low beam. Both options are ok. Front fogs legally cannot be turned on without parking lights or low beam on, but should automatically cut off when switching to high beam.
I have Hella Comet 550 yellow fogs installed, a proven decades old model, but I can assure you they are good and give a very wide spread. Pictures in my gallery. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

warn made lights that could alter beam pattern when dipped (as used by camel trophy vehicles) - not sure how effective they are as ickle bought my set before i fitted mine.

i have fitted 5" black slimline kc daylighters on my bumper next to the a/c bulge without problem (see my gallery)
