Halfords sell a few brands at a few price bands. I imagine the quality varies.

Yer they sell quite a few for cheapness and for better quality than standard go for a pioneer or even upgrade to the alpine there around the £30-£40 band and will be better than standards. Or step it up and go for the likes of rainbow components or Focals they will cost you about £140-£250 but you usually get tweeters to match Thumbs Up Thumbs Up CSK Automotive

No, Just am not a fan of the quality. I've had experiences in the past of fitting an Alpine unit a mid range one at that so not cheap and the iPod lead connector cracked / split after a month or two for no apparent reason I can think of except for being made of brittle plastic. And also buttons on the front that I would say are a 90's design and again the same cheap type plastic but worst of all the buttons worked a bit loose from the fascia if that makes sense? So they just didn't seem very good quality to me. If that's the sort of quality they are capable of frankly I'd rather keep the LR original radio than that and hardwire other items in instead. To add to that they are supposed to be a premium brand and cost quite a bit but really not worth it IMHO.

All the same personal choice for everybody. Smile $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Well I have been arsed and got the jig saw out, and whilst custom my ride would no doubt laugh at my handy work I am suitably impressed the whole car (front anyway) seems to be consumed in sound. The one thing I would say is a lack of bass, as there are now four tweeters, mid and high end is nice though quite soft but very clear.

So what have people done to the rear speakers? I'm thinking of making a suitable housing to fit some 6*9's to get a bit of meat back!

You can get rear speaker pods pre-made for 6x9's & they will indeed improve mids and bass but vastly depends on what you choose. If you want bass you need a higher power output. I can think of a pair that are 1000w for the pair or 500w peak each. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Sounds good, although would that need an amp? Pods sound good would you be good enough to put me in the right direction?

Many thanks

An Amp would be needed ideally yes as the HU can only give so much power so you'd A. Have 6x9's not used to their full potential and B. have the HU putting out it's absolute maximum.

I would recommend these:
