Which is the best year of the Puma so far? For quality, least gremlins, & sales? Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

The quote below was taken from an historical thread from 2009....All the sentiments contained therein are still true to this day some three years later and mileage is now a tad over 34K. Much 'fettling' and purchases from a wish-list (that's still quite long) later and despite all the nightmare stories I am still on the original 'running gear' (gearbox, transfer box, clutch etc. etc.). For me personally as Dgardel pointed out my 'Lucky Year' just has to be 2008.

Happy New Year Everybody....... Thumbs Up

I too have had a myriad of cars in my 'near half a century' from hot hatches to A 3.9 litre V8 LPG Disco. I purchased my Puma nearly a year ago on the demise of my Disco and have covered 12,000 trouble free miles in that time. Mid -life crisis ensues, Logitech Remap, Chequerplate, A-Bar, Aluminium Billet handles (that my other half couldn't believe at the price she paid for them that they fitted on the inside and nobody but me would see them), Andrew's Remote Locking Mod and hopefully some 'i'm going to burn the retinas from your eyeball Lightforce Lights from Santa' (plleeeease!!!), and a visit to Rustmaster in the New Year.

This is the very first vehicle (Phew!!! Nearly put car down then! Glad I didn't) that a year after purchasing I get the same pleasure now of driving it as on the day I first went to collect it. I too probably need to get out more but as long as it's in my Puma I'm only too willing to oblige.

My May 08 still happy. Smile "Nearly new". Prev owner would have sorted bugs in the 8500 he drove it.

Not done much rough stuff (but rougher than I'd dare in any other 4x4). Only accident a shattered rear window. Will be looking to fit an external grid for 2013 (maybe sides as well). I'd like a police flip-down riot gauze for the front, if such things are made generally.

Any other Defenders will be older & less gadget reliant. I'd like a 107/109/110 ideally to convert for al fresco sleeping. Switzerland 2009 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SVX Station Wagon Santorini Black
Best Puma year, who knows? All in the eye of the beholder I guess......
But mine is a 110 SVX model year 2009, delivered Sep 2008. 60k km virtually trouble free, minor issues only, early on in the first year the EGR valve has been replaced, thereafter no more issues with this, one rear diff flange leak replaced under extended warranty this year, 3 rear windows replaced under (extended) warranty due to top three elements failing, the last one this year finally with the new design window, one split turbo hose I think 2 years ago replaced under waranty, one headlamp electric levelling motor replaced under extended warranty, but other issues cannot really think of any.....
The truck is a bit pampered of course, have done everything possible to preserve it for eternity, first class thorough Dinitrolled as per Zag, stainless bolts all round, frequent fluid changes and greasing, etc..... Don't drive it when there is even a hint of salt around.... Zero rust Whistle Original gearbox, transfer box, clutch,... Thumbs Up
Is 2009 the best year? Don't know, but it remains in showroom condition, or better, it purrrrrrrrrs like a cat, but admit to only run on BP Ultimate since more than a year, and that makes one hell of a difference... Thumbs Up You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

To BigWheels: Without pretending to be a specialist on the matter, I can say that when my attention to BP Ultimate was raised via an older thread here (=attached), I finally gave it a go, and from a disbeliever I became a believer. One thing is for sure, when using it for the first time, I virtually immediately noticed a totally different much more civilized engine tone, and the EGR cleaning cycle after a little while became a much quieter "chuka chuka chuka" than before when I had been using supermarket diesel. Cannot say much more, but I have at least some audible indications that the engine runs smoother with it. So much better that without a problem I pay expensive Swiss prices for it, as on this side of lake Geneva there is not one single BP station in France. (Diesel in France is 15% cheaper than here). One more thing, which surely applies to Switzerland, not sure about UK, but BP Ultimate here is 100% mineral diesel, with 0% bio-diesel content. Also better for your motor.
Below is the link to the mentioned thread, you can read that from sceptical I became an adept of the stuff. If there are further comments on this, and in order not to go too far Off Topic maybe better to revive the below thread on the subject. Thumbs Up
