I see no one has replied to you yet Big Wheels. Maybe they don't go out enough or into water so don't know what effect it would have if you drowned it.
I had a problem with mine on a Td5 which stopped me and had to get it flat bedded back to Perth (WA) but it wasn't water. Apparently it (TPO) malfunctioned but I've a sneaking suspicion it may have been a bit of oil I put on the pedal that migrated into the controlling part. Would tick over all day but stop/hesitate/miss etc if I put my foot down. I suspect water would do the same thing and all you can do is try to keep the stuff out by using a tarp on the front and drive steadily with a bow wave in front. That's my theory anyway, not sure if it would work or not. Cheers. AlanH. |

As a sparky myself if problematic I would either go to Farnell's website or RS Components or even a decent chandlers and replace the original connector with one that has the highest IP Rating I could find. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

I suspect that the reason you've had no replies is that it is not a significant problem. Malfunction of the throttle position sensor is likely to cause (at best) symptoms similar to a flat spot or intermittent misfire, and (at worst) a completely ineffective loud pedal. There will also be faults logged on the ECU, and, if persisted, these may result in the MIL being illuminated and limp mode.
Water in the connector should be easy enough to dry out and I wouldn't expect this to be a problem. Water or dirt ingress into the TPS potentiometers and/or damage to the pot tracks will require replacement of the pedal assembly. These opinions are based on personal experience with a Td5 Disco but I imagine that the Puma would be similar. I have had the footwell fill up on my Puma but it didn't affect the throttle. I may have been lucky, of course! |

I remember in an older LRO when there was a group of 3 or 6 silver 90's (first generation Td5's I think) all kitted up doing some trails, and they had problems with water in the driver demand unit (why don't they just call it the throttle? ) from wading.
Even if the plug could be waterproofed, and the main unit is (I think) set in resin, water will leak in through the shaft where the pedal attaches. don't know how to proof the pedal itself, however I saw in one mag where a challenge truck had the potentiometer (removed from the "pedal") mounted in an IP rated box on the dash, and a 300 type pedal fitted, with its cable routed up to the IP box, and a bit of linkage operating the potentiometer. |
