I occasionally 'have a mooch' around Landy Watch to see if there are any 'shennanigans' going on in my neck of the woods. Thankfully down my area there appears to be very little 'toe-rag' activity.
 What did surprise me though were the following statistics. I did seek permission to do a cut and paste from their forum as it was quite an eye-opener for me and quite worrying really. Hope you find it as informative and for those considering shelling out for extra security it may give you the nudge you need perhaps?
Posted on 19 December. The bold bit at the end I highlighted as if you apply it to the figures received it is indeed quite surprising.... "AVCIS tell me that in the 21 month period of Jan11 to Sep12, there were 1587 reported Defender thefts nationally. There is no current breakdown by force, which makes me wonder how they arrive at the total but hey ho In the period Feb11 to time of writing, of the 174 reported thefts on LandyWatch(LW), 139 were Defenders, of which 62%, were Td/Tdis, 29% Td5s & 9% Pumas. Overall, the 90 was the most frequently stolen length variant, in 72% of LW reported incidents to date. You can see from the map at the bottom of the forum home page, by the pin density, which are the most reported theft areas, but bear in mind that LW is seeing (very roughly) only one in every ten actual Defender thefts. http://www.landywatch.co.uk/index.php/stolen-vehicle-maps/ Taking this into consideration from another source the figures do add up in a way..... The Land Rover Defender is the most stolen car in Britain, according to analysis of more than 2,300 theft claims by online car insurance provider swiftcover.com for its 2011/12 Vehicle Theft Index (1). i think mines quite safe as I believe it has the latest factory anti theft device.
even if they got it they won't get far..... 
in fact its at its most vunerable at the moment as its on the back of an aa truck

It certainly surprised me....
This is from another website and I think the 'ethos' behind the 'layered approach' is possibly the best way and is the one I myself have adopted, needn't cost a packet either..for example applying resin/ball bearings to torx screws etc.... 
It is clear that there is no single magic solution to security. Each security product just buys you time - and it is time that is the real deterrent to potential thieves, not loud alarms nor flashing lights. Most people simply ignore alarms. The more time your vehicle takes to steal, the greater the chance a potential thief will be caught so the more likely they are to move on to a less protected vehicle. Curiously, the magic time delay is roughly 2 minutes. A delay of 2 mins will make most thieves move to another vehicle. A delay of 4 mins will not give you twice the protection (a case of diminishing returns). However, two security products which each take more than 2 minutes to defeat does seem to offer double the protection. This is the reason specialists recommend a 'layered' approach. Each product provides one layer of protection and you decide how many layers you need for the risk in your area. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! If only it was that simple.
The cop shop for the area was just opposite the car park too. They were very lucky indeed! Only about 12 - 14 as well.  If they'd have tried it I'd have been there believe me. Not that they'll do much.. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️ |
