Water in lights

Daughter drove through very deep puddle
Small drop of water in headlights which do not work any more
How should I get it out ?
Can it be prevented from getting in again?

Take it off the car or put some fish in there

You should absolutely get the water out as it damages/removes the silvering on the reflector at the back.

Remove the guard, the indicator, the side light and the surround then you should just have to undo one screw on the headlight bezzel and it will twist out. Don't undo the tiny screws that mount the bezzel to the headlight, it's difficult to tell them apart! Then unplug the bulb, remove the rear rubber bulb cover and unclip the bulb...but don't touch it or it will blow when you put it back! empty the water and dry the headlight out in the airing cupboard overnight! Re-assembly is the reverse process!

Putting fish in seems easier than light removal

One dissadvantage of the LED side lights is that they bolt from the back the the wheel arch lining has to be removed first - a long job especially in the rain

I managed to just take out the first few plastic rivets and get my hand up behind the arch to undo them.

I managed to do mine without removing the arch spats. It is possible! Made alot easier with the liberal use of swear words

I'd remove them empty the dirty water out then swill them through with clean water to get and dirt / muck out then dry as mentioned previously in airing cupboard or perhaps on radiator providing it isn't too hot. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️

i know it sounds a waste but you could sell them dirt cheap or keep them as spares and upgrade to some nice clear ones

Mananged to remove them - had to remove a few clips on left side as horn got in the way of acces from the top
Drivers side the plastic trim bent back enough to remove retaining screw.

Is there any method of stopping it happening again ?
Can they be sealed ?

They are IPF 110/80w so nice and bright - but not at the moment - so reluctant to upgrade unless I go for LEDs that wont need the bulbs changing

Go on Gavin, you know that LED is the only way to go! I did some deep wading over the last couple of days, leds are still bone dry inside and fully functional

You never got that problem with the sealed beam units on the series Land Rovers,just a shame they were useless as lights ! 2005 Td5 90 XS

Wanted some of these about a month ago, after a very damp trip inc headlamp water ingress back in October time. Bearmach and island4x4 cannot get hold of them, saying they are no longer made. Something about improvement to lighting using halogens. If you got a set keep hold of them for off road wading trips, easier to change a pair of lamps than the hour it took me to clean and dry waterlogged ones in the field, using kitchen towel. Whilst everyone else had lunch!
