Many of us bought Defenders because we could flock around with them... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

so in extreme cold climates, a heated screen is preferable to a hotshot but in the UK, cold/damp/freezing fog a hotshot (or similar) will shift the muck off the windscreen.
I'm going to take SteveS and Gavin's advice and buy some halford's screen wash. |

I can't imagine not using Winter screenwash at temperatures below zero. My final word (you'll be relieved to hear) is that a heated screen is fantastic when you're iced/icing up at minus 15 or lower. The HeatShot will not defrost an unheated screen covered in ice. However, it is great at keeping the screen clear in Winter below minus 15, as it warms it up the "gooey" (e.g. minus 30) Winter screenwash so it's useble (flows like water). I am lucky enough to have both, but there's no question that the heated screen is more "essential" and the HeatShot is a "luxury". Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

@Ze - my point was that SteveS and Gavin have both used the Halfords screen wash in Nordkapp this year and recommend it ... if you don't use screen wash and it gets cold, your washer jets break off

Halfords wash is called Comma and goes down to minus 65

@bpman - I agree entirely, there is enormous variability in the quality and performance here too. I wasn't suggesting you were daft enough just to use water. Apologies for any confusion.
The Nigrin stuff I use is pretty good (10 quid for 5 litres) and goes between minus 10 (1 in 4 dilution) and minus 60 (undiluted). Like many, I just start with the watery stuff and add concentrate over a few weeks as it gets colder. How does Halfords compare on price? Now I really will shut up... unless someone pokes me  Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
