Spotted this one on ebay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1994-LAND-ROVER-...51a368df5b Another confused moment... Puma bonnet - no probs Td5 Dash with aircon & TD5 dials The bit i'm wondering how its done is, the dash board shows a digital odometer. Hows does the digital miles display work with a 300tdi? Special ECU to drive the digital display? 297643 miles or is it 29764.3 ? 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

I'm looking to change my 300tdi dash to a td5 and I believe you fit a transducer ( I think. What's what it's called) and this changes the mechanical drive out of the transfer box to a electronic signal of some sort

I knew you could do the some of the dash (display/warning lights) but didn't know you could convert from analogue miles to digital with out an ECU to drive it. 1999 Defender TD5 110

The speedo ECU don't talk to each other (well ok they do, but only to flash the alarm light and to read a vehicle speed signal). Speed readings and mileage is all does completely independently of the ECU. It's not like a modern car where the odometer figure is kept in the ECU and read by the instrument cluster. In a Td5 it's all contained within the speedo head.
A transducer is fitted to the transfer box in place of the cable drive, and the signal fed to the back of the speedo head. Simple as that. With regard to the mileage figure in that photo, I can't make it out. But it could be either. The Td5 speedo head shows a decimal point for odometer readings < 99,999 miles. Once you hit 100k it drops the decimal and only shows whole miles. Normal trip counter shows up to 999.9 miles as normal. |
