Cheaper Alternative
Right, I know I had a full intention to by a Defender to replace my Discovery.... but bought another Discovery in the end due to thinking of the comfort too much Rolling Eyes

The thing is I also need (Ideally) another 4x4 for the dogs and shooting and general rough work... I just can't seem to get a Defender on my extremly limited budget (due to buying a brand new shiny disco).
I am looking Japanese pickup now- sub £5,000. Being the Defender forum lots of people here will use your Defenders for working purposes... and I know they are the best working 4x4 Big Cry but I cant afford a decently young one sub £5,000.

Experiences of Japanese pickups then? Navara? L200?

Navara d22 I would go for. Doubt d40's would go that cheap. Some good one's out there. Perhaps consider one with a canopy on the rear too. Thumbs Up âï¸âï¸God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 âï¸âï¸

Trouble is for the budget you'll probably be fixing it more than driving it. Laughing âï¸âï¸God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 âï¸âï¸

Yes, sub £5,000 is one of those older Tdi's maybe one or two mega mileage Td5's... An MOT time gamble as I call it. Whistle Whistle

I fancy an old 4.2 TD Cruiser... Mind, i'd spend more time filling it up than driving Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

I have a Defender but some of the lads on the farm have hilux's. There very strong and quite comfy for a pick up. You can get some good deals on ex network rail trucks and they all seem to be well looked after.

There not a defender but there not bad!

Pete.

If it weren't too small, a Lada Niva - always thought of it as the Defender's runt brother Laughing Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

£5k should buy you a great Defender!

No it might not have leather seats or alloy wheels or air conditioning but it will actually do the job! I realise that's pretty low on the priority list for some people though...

If you decide to go for a pick up then you CAN NOT beat the hilux. On the farm we have had nearly every brand of main stream pick ups as workers. We always go back to the hilux, good reliable simple work horse. Better off road and tougher than the rest of the new style ones. The only runner up is the old shape L200, also fairly bullet proof.

Well I have decided....

An old series IIa to hark back to the days in the 1980's when I had one. No tax... Dog friendly cheap to buy and will cope fine for around the doors driving... The D4 is for doing major driving

Thanks guys, looks like my days on this forum are done cos I am not buying a Defender, rather the defenders grandparent Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Good look and happy 4x4ing to all Thumbs Up
